Is there anyone I travelling through France at the moment in their motorhome

Just in case anyone is here ! And discussing today with a french person lol

Although it is known as Bastille Day in English-speaking countries, in France it is formally known as La Fête Nationale, and commonly le quatorze juillet.

Well i suppose they do not want it remembered as celebrating Anti-Monarchists, Revolution, Sedition and Murder.

Long Live the Queen and five Chinese Crackers up Macron's a*sehole into the bargain.

It would appear making a lighthearted post on this day has got the usual french political response . I guess I shouldn’t have expected anything less . But I am sure you are very conversant with the politics of France and not just how their decisions spoil holidays .

Hi Mark, yes we are travelling through France, arrived yesterday, currently staying a few days at a site in St Nicholas, Le Bec-Hellouin. There was a party last night to celebrate for Bastille day which was vibrant and enjoyable

We have nothing else booked, so will plan our route tomorrow, possibly towards Le Man's, Nantes, and to the coast and then south.

We have been here for the last week. Motorways are as good as usual, better really since traffic volumes are down a bit. Campsites: Depends where you are. Some in the Alps are pretty empty because the weather has been poor there. In Provence they are pretty busy, mainly French and Dutch in the two we have used.

Off there in the morning for the weekend. What we're expecting:

- quieter roads
- quieter camp sites
- quieter towns and shops

I hope we're right;)

Can confirm all of the above points but would add that the wet weather has in many places resulted in soft ground at campsites, we saw quite a few getting stuck and needing a tug...

We also saw a large "anti-government/vaccination" protest group, pretty rowdy with over 1000 people marching around, all up in arms about the 1st August deadline...
