Motorhome crash testing - ouch that's going to hurt !!!

OMG ! 40 mph impact and the body separates from the chassis scary ?

When you think how they are constructed then it isn’t surprising, really. However, I’m not going to lose sleep over it; when my time is up, my time is up.....

Just be the internals crashing through the cab for us, we've got a van convert.

I'm with you on this one, but if it does go wrong please let in be on the homeward journey after a lovely trip and not before

Whilst it’s a worrying factor. So would be riding a pushbike with all these selfish tw4ts driving round. Drunk, drugged, using mobiles or any combination.

If you thought too much about any of this. You would never walk on the pavement again. Let alone get on a bus!.

Quiz question for the MH experts amongst us, Can anyone guess the brand model of the two crashed motorhomes.
The A Class was a Pilote, but I dont know what the C Class was.
The A Class seemed to come off worse, would you have expected that,? I think I would have as the C Class is still wearing its full metal jacket:giggle:
Few decent spares will be available from both now(y)
Scary but not overly surprised at results.

The C class looks like a Hobby to me, don't think we will be getting a Pilote ;)

Dont know what the relative speeds are between the two test but this Flair looks to hold together a bit better, and its got airbags.

I think the c class is either a hobby or fendt not sure about the a class

tbf I do n t think any mh would do well in an offset test and probably even lorries would struggle. Ecause of the momentum. n

I do think the a class shown is a pretty cheap one with single ply floor, I suspect a bonded one would do better I also think no cab door would help.

Not surprised by the outcome.

but in reality it’s the internal fittings coming flying that would get you as much/more than the crumple zone not being there.

i recall as a fairly young motor claims handler having to manage the case of a couple who had an accident in their Type 2 camper van. Sadly the driver was decapitated by the fixings, certainly as a 19 year old having to review the pictures from the Police report was very sobering. Especially as I was still living at home and Dad had a Type 2 Westphalia...

I wonder if the micro switch in the tap still worked after the Hymer crash?

This Hymer did not fare so well Lenny. :Eeek:

saw some photos of bailey crash testing some years ago they were at 30mph and the fridge went through the front screen double hab double seat wound up under the back wheels went straight through the floor so they aded outriggers under the seat and secured the fridge and tested again
this time the welds on the double seat gave way and the wardrobe went out the front

That video looked horrendous. My Swedish is non-existent so how did the crash test dummies fare? I'm guessing that kind of crash would be fatal for humans in the front seats in spite of the seat belts and airbags.

Not impressed by the passive safety of the Ducato cab. At all. Ooer.

Definitely going to try harder not to crash our PVC.
