Things did not go well when I got to the MOT stations a vehicle from across the road was blocking the entrance then it failed due to seized brake pad/caliper so booked in for Monday. Then trouble getting it out as it needs a right angle turn, always a bit tight for the motorhome so they had to move a customers car. Tester said the seizure is possibly due to lack of use so gets to thinking in view of probably SORN-ing it until we have a degree of freedom to travel. What streps do I take to prevent seizure of the pads/calipers at the front? One thought is to jack it up onto stands leaving the wheels free to turn and testing it every couple of weeks or so by running the engine, testing the brakes for seizures. Any one any other thoughts?

The Pro's will be along in a minute but all it requires is the caliper and rear of the pads being lubed with a specific grease (Copper)?

No need to jack it up, just push the brake pedal a few times (with engine running if servo is needed) once a week or so. Chock the wheels and leave the handbrake off but apply it a few times when doing the brake pedal.
Genuine question but isn't it now illegal to take the van away from the garage now that it's failed it;s MOT?

Well, they could not keep it there it is too big for their premises and the old MOT expires on the 9th March so not sure where I stand. It actually brakes fine as I told the tester who admitted it did not show on the rolling road. The pads are worn down to the near limit. Anyway it is home now, but will look it up.

If your old MOT runs till 9th March you would of been fine to take it home .

get your pads changed 1st, the effort of pushing the pistons back will probably cure your problem,(y)

If its failed on a dangerous fault, it will say on the fail sheet if its minor, major or dangerous, then its not supposed to see a road until its passed.
If you do take it on the road the garage could ring the police and get you nicked for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.

If your up for doing this work yourself then jack it up.axel stand.take wheel off.
Take caliper off and hang it up so it doesn't damage the hose.

The piston needs pushing back in with a G clamp or something with the fluid reservoir cap off.
Then start it up and push the brake pedal down .
See how far the piston comes out.
Try this a good few times if it works put it all back together and spin the wheel...brake again ...spin the wheel again over and over..if it feels free all good.
If not the piston will need taking out by pushing the brake pedal right down and pulling out completely.
Inside there will be a bit if corrosion ..if not too bad just use some Emery cloth to clean it up and then replace.
You can even buy a kit to rebuild yourself.
Use only rubber Grease not copper slip or grease..
2 hr job..
Keeps your brain working thru lockdown,😉

P.s if the piston needs to come out you will need to clamp the brake hose and bleed the air out after..

Copper slip shouldn’t be used on any brakes with ABS.

It can confuse it 😊

Are you saying it passed the brake test on the rollers but they failed it on a seized caliper ?

Yeah more than likely binding but normally easier than a full on siezed caliper

MOT test result​

Otherwise, you’ll need to get it repaired before you can drive.
If you can take your vehicle away, it must still meet the minimum standards of roadworthiness at all times.
You can be fined up to £2,500, be banned from driving and get 3 penalty points for driving a vehicle that has failed its MOT because of a ‘dangerous’ problem.

Braking force can be a pass but they can be dragging/binding so braking force recorded with no pedal effort but I was curious as well
Binding brakes are common on ducato rears

You are reading what want rather than what is says.
If it has failed if & it is a minor fault you can drive it home or to a place of repair you can't carry on driving it on the old certificate as that is no longer valid.

Emery cloth on a brake caliper piston 😱😱😱😱, that's a real no no

Should use wire wool & WD40, Emery cloth will rough the surface, removing the rust preventing surface and with the newly roughed up surface rip the seals to bits

Your using incorrect terminology.
You can of course be charged with driving a defective vehicle but you cant be charged with driving without an mot, as the old mot does remain valid.
A refusal to issue an mot can not and never has cancelled out an existing current test certificate.
