Can anyone say if this has stopped? Ours is due 30th June but not been extended on Gov website. Thought it would have been by now if still applicable. Anyone in a similar position now or has an extension to a later initial MOT date?

To early I think. Most only change around 5 days prior. Wife's car was due this week and only changed as above about 5 days prior.

Have it tested anyway................ safer (y)

Yes, mine was due on the 25th and renewed on the 18th, but not until around midday

Our scooter was due for MOT on 17th June, it was extended on the government website on the 12th .....

Ours was due this week and was extended. I'm still having it serviced but won't bother with the mot until it's now due I'm sure the service will pick up any safety related issues

My MOT was extended to December but I had the service and MOT done yesterday.

I didn't want to risk inevitable panic MOT bookings if or when the extension concession is withdrawn.

I can't see why there'd be a rush when it's withdrawn as it won't mean that all MOT's (extended or not) will suddenly be expiring at the same time but folk will just be having MOT's carried out 6 months later than their original expiry date. I.e. staggered throughout the year.

It depends on the scenario in a few months' time. You assume that the extension will keep going on a rolling basis, and not be discontinued at short notice. What if the Government reckons the public safety risk of unroadworthy vehicles has overtaken the virus risk. At which point the expired extended MOTs and other MOTs due anyway might double the demand for MOT tests at the most inconvenient time. Just my 2d worth.

Anyhow I prefer to get the service and MOT done in a single annual visit. The cost saving by delaying the MOT must be relatively insignificant.

Once new extensions stop will mean cars due later will be due and the ones given extensions will also be due.
So twice as many as normal. So MOT centres won’t cope and get behind.
Got daughters and mine done.
Also peace of mind van or car roadworthy.

I checked my mot reminder system that we send out to our customers via email and text today.
We normally send out around 300 reminders per month when i checked the ones for Oct we will be sending over 600 out, this is due to the nornal tests in oct being due plus all the ones we should have done in April.
Not sure how we will cope too be honest, my advise is get it done now because going on whats happening at my garage you will struggle to get a slot.

Put mine in today as an older MH it was for peace of mind and therefore we can keep the summer 'block' of holidays and get things put right prior to times we can travel. I was tempted to ask ... if it fails can I get the extension haha. Luckily it passed

Yep, pretty much the same here a couple of weeks ago. Just as well - new front pads and discs.....

One of the reasons I MOT'd was that it gives me 12 months - which might sound obvious but if I'm away over Winter I will be covered - the extension would run out in December..... I would have to return...........

You may well be right but we don't know yet.
My thinking is that the extension arrangement will be withdrawn leaving vehicles not yet 'MOT due' as they were with regard to their original ( i.e. not extended) MOT expiry date.
Vehicles with the extended MOT date will be due whenever they reach that extended date.
I cannot imagine that the DVLA will suddenly withdraw the extension at a stroke and require immediate MOTs on every vehicle that had previously had its MOT date extended. Apart from the testing stations and repair garages being unable to cope with the demand there will be vehicle owners away from home or on holiday and driving illegally. Vehicles needing MOT work could be unusable for weeks waiting for appointments with very busy garages (and possibly replacement parts) to do the work. Politically unlikely too.

I did read the other day a suggestion that MOTs due in October, November and December, not already extended will be extended by 3 months to spread the load. It was on one of the DVLA websites too, just unsure which, as I read a lot

Not so easy to 'get it done now' when one is 900 miles from a French ferry port and on landing at Dover one has to do 2 weeks quarantine.

I have put in a request to DVSA to advise whether my 31.07.2020 date will be extended. I wait.

Geoff.

The tax for our car is due 30/06/20 the MOT expires 07/07/20. I have taxed the car and will hope the MOT extension come through.

With M/H dealers wanting vans in 3 days before working on them and 3 days after hows that square with a mot then. Bill

I think that's the most likely scenario. If it was impossible to get an mot how does that square with trying to protect the economy when it might mean some can't get to work. It could well be they reduce the extension gradually.

I wouldn't worry too much the amount of MOT stations is well over supplied .

About 20,100 local car repair garages throughout Great Britain, employing about 53,000 testers, are authorised to perform testing and to issue certificates.

It makes good sense. The virus is said to be able to last up to three days on some surfaces. After three days it should be safe for them to work on the vehicle and after another three days it should be safe for you to collect. (y)

It does make sense but 3 out of 4 of my local MOT/repair places don't have room to park vehicles inside or outside for 6 days. My 'While U Wait' MOT place must do about 12 to 15 a day. I wouldn't want my m/bike left outside in the street for 6 days.

Mike Beaches has just posted on another thread:
“Just seen on Sky News - MOT extensions for cars to end on 22 July! “

It was here - but to save you time, I queried where Mike had seen it, and he’s said it’s no longer there. I’m wondering if Sky got confused with the fact that car driving tests are resuming on that date?

I did post that, but subsequently had to eat humble pie, because I may have misunderstood the Sky post I'd seen. Or it may have been as Solwaybuggier has posted above, that Sky made the error. And I was unable to find any other evidence - so apologies, if I was guilty of posting 'fake news'.

Mine was due (but technically not as it is historic) on 2 July, This morning it was automatically updated to 2 January 2021. I will still have it done now though - peace of mind that someone independent has checked it.

We booked ours on Wednesday of this week and took it yesterday straight through no problems, it as extended until November but as we have sold it I thought piece of mind. 🙂

Our van is due to be MOTed on te 17th July. As I am shielding (until the 31st at least) there is no way to get it done until after the MOT is due.

I just hope the extension is in place for a little longer - last year we had hab check, service and MOT done at the supplying dealers and would like to do the same again - the only issue being the dealer is in Derby and we are in Scotland.
