Our van is sorn but needs an MOT I’ve booked in for MOT Wednesday question is can I drive to the test station without it being TAXED.
I can’t tax it without an MOT.
THANK YOU.

Yes, but don't stop off for shopping or anything.
The law allows you to drive directly to or from an MOT
Still has to be insured of course.

You can drive to and from a pre booked MOT on sorn, you should be going straight there and back and not travel further than reasonably possible.

Does it need taxing on line before you leave the MOT station following a pass??
No, but do it asap. You'll have to pay for all of June anyway. Get the MOT on Thursday and tax it (on the 1st) and you won't pay for a month's tax.
I'd take chance and MOT it on Wednesday and delay taxing it til Thursday.

If I wasn’t going to be using it I would happily leave until the 1st.

It is legal to drive to and from MOT station.... and it is legal to Sorn a currently Mot'd vehicle..... So why does does he have to tax as soon as possible???? Surely he can leave it on Sorn until he decides to tax it.

Hasn't been back to read replies but we don't know his circumstances.
I agree it's not necessary to tax until 1st July and save almost a month's money but it may be needed befor July.

The assumption would be if you mot'd it when it had already lapsed then you must be going to use it otherwise why would you mot a vehicle on a sorn?

By 'asap' I meant if the OP intended to use it the same day since he asked whether he had to tax it before leaving the MOT station, e.g before going off the same day on a trip. Obviously it can be kept off the road on SORN indefinitely whether it's MOT'd or not.

We did this a couple of months ago. SORNd , went for MOT, passed, tried to tax it online but it would not let us. Called them and they said I have to do it at a post office which I did after a long walk home and back to get the V 5

It needed an mot March 22nd but now have to move it before end of June or I would have waited until July
