how long did it take you to travel down there
Based on your experance so for what is the list of must haves before leaving uk
Can you get lpg and what adapters would I need for filling up if possible

Thanks guys

Lots of questions there, As you can read we are not the experts on this BUT from our own experiences.
Daily spend, that can vary so much but ie today.. Campsite 65dh bread 1.2dh water 10dh meal of the day 3 course and a drink 65dh... = in total that under £10 and thats for 2 people !!! So thats our basics, you can spend what you want on top of that...
From UK to the port at Algeciras we took 7 nights, BUT we diverted to Benidorm and spend 2 nights there, otherwise we could have done it in 5 and thats doing a max of 6 hours driving a day. All non toll...
There are no real must haves as you can get most stuff in Spain, most people load up at Algaciras where there is a carrefour and lidl... Guess any Uk products that you like and would not get in Spain.. Strongbow comes to mind..:thumb:
I dont have Gaslow or anything like that but i understand it's not available in Morocco but there are places in Spain.. Bottles gas is cheap here and you can always adapt something if required.. Many on the trip have bought bottles and the camping gas type things to go on top and so can cook outdoors.

Hope that helps... There are many others on the forum who can give more detailed advise... GO FOR IT...

Another enjoyable evening of chatting and merriment.......

Thinks are getting a bit desperate for some.. !!

Deals mentioned tonight were:

2 x chocolate mouse in exchange for Profiteroles. :Rofl1:

3 x cans of baked beans for a stongbow. :Rofl1::Rofl1:

1 x litre of red Lidl wine for 3 can of Lidl lager,,,,. The tried to tell me it was based on volume but I aint convinced.... :Rofl1:

Watch out.. Morocco funsters are hitting the movies tomorrow. !!
We are off to Atlas studios where we may re-enact famous film scenes...

Can you tell it's been an evening where alcohol was involved..

Motorhome Morocco Break down insurance ,

We are with safeguard but they don't cover Morocco , as we maybe splitting from the main group at Marakech , i have today phoned ADAC and arranged cover ADAC Plus for 79 euros .

i used the Maroc phone card , 2 minutes for 1 Dirham to phone Germany ,
it only took about 5 mins to sort it all out and i paid by credit card ,

i spoke to Andrea Rennschmide who spoke good English on 0044 94155673 ,:thumb:

Hi guys, just a point of interest (as I need new European breakdown cover) who your insured with to cover travel within Europe and Morroco?

I am insured with Saga. They issued me with a green card for Morocco. (They also provide my breakdown cover in Europe.)
Mine is an old van and I believe Moroccan ingenuity and skill would resolve breakdown problems. I know that there are occasions where it could be necessary for the van to be carried home. In that case I would have to pay the price.
In future I am likely to use ADAC but did not allow enough time this year. I believe the cover is good but it could depend on what you pay.

Enjoy, hope to see you next year. :thumb:

Ready for a move

All jobs completed and we were ready to move on this morning. Got loaded up and set for the off but had to wait a little while to be unlocked from the EHU. Spent the time with KW. That's our German neighbour. He is 80 and has a young wife of 69. They have been coming to Morocco for 18 years. They toured around for the first 10 years and for the last 8 years have been staying at just one place. Well not exactly they did spend 9 months one year touring the USA in their own van which they had shipped there and back.

He got out his 20 year old map to show me places that he thought I may like to visit. No great surprises but he obviously got a thrill remembering times past. He also made the point that I should not try to see everything this time with a - 'Now this place you can leave until next year but you would be able to go there when you go to that place.'

We left Atlantica Parc (that's the one to the north of Taghazout and to the landward side of the N1, not the one in the Camping Morocco book) and drove to just south of Taghazout where the Beach Bums are staying. (This is just north of the Atlantica Parc site which has direct access to the beach and is in the book.) - I have been told that both sites are owned by the same man.

As evening drew close we walked along the beach to Surf City (Taghazout), looked at stalls selling all things surf and tourist stuff, bought some hats - why not -:Doh: and ate a meal for pennies.

Getting home was not straight forward as someone had switched off the moon and we could not see the way back down the rocky bank to get to the beach. We ended up walking back along the roadside - not a good choice but the only one available.

What of tomorrow. Gordon has done a deal with the marijuana smoking driver of what can only be described as a pimp-mobile complete with blacked out windows, to take us to a 'pretty place'.

I said OK - I am in Morocco after all.

Funsters Reunited - Part 2

Now that the "Tail Enders" have left Atlantica Park and rejoined those staying at Taghazout Beach, due to mechanical breakdown, are we still the "Tail Enders? We had a sundowner meet tonight around the camp fire to watch another amazing sunset.

This new grouping of funsters may well splinter again in the next few days with Gordon (Gaudi) staying at Taghazout while Colin and Christina (Coss) may join us on the way south, time will clarify the new groups.

In the meantime some pics of "Sunset over Taghazout"

Regards, Bryan (& Anna)

Lunch in Ouarzazate

We all had lunch at a beautifully positioned restaurant in the main square of Ouarzazate, the waiter had been gesturing to us earlier to eat at his restaurant so ordered our drinks and and listened to a Moroccan guitar player also sitting in the square, an ideal location after finding a supermarket selling alcohol...yay. We wearily smiled as the salt and pepper arrived both lids covered in dust and grease, old torn table mats arrived and we joked that our motor home floor mats were cleaner, we laughed and decided it was all about the food as we were starving feeling like our throats had been cut so who cares and proceeded to order our food - fairly easy as there was only 8 main course choices. :Rofl1:

The fresh cold orange juices and Fanta, bread and olives arrived and soon after the waiter returned to explain that they did not have three out of four of the orders we had wanted so would we like to order again with a patient smile we ordered again a few minutes later he returned to explain that two of the dishes we had re-ordered were also - no longer on the menu. We told him not to worry, two of us would not eat and decided we would share the 10 inch pizza and a bowl of soup between the four of us. Feeling a bit pissed off as Team Tonka had also ordered Steak Kebabs (spelt Stek) and they seemed to be having no problems at all. A discussion followed about Manuel and Faulty Towers.

A small bowl of soup and a razor thin pizza arrived followed quickly by a plate of Chicken Kebabs with the waiter insisting we, had changed our minds and also ordered the Chicken Kebabs. After a few firm words he had to agree this might have been his mistake and left us alone. We were becoming slightly stressed now as we were all still so hungry!

Team Tonka’s table ordered Stek Kebab so when it arrived, they too discovered their Stek Kebabs were actually Chicken Kebab – a rolling of eyes ensued. They later over charged them for their drinks – but spotted by Team Tonka.:thumb:

The waiter returned to our table once again with a huge beaming smile to explain that they did now have fish so would we like to eat that :Eeek:......there was no fish on the menu?

We left briskly!

The above was a one off experience we have found the Moroccans to be very friendly, helpful and eager to give advice when you ask for it. Happy Days. :thumb:

Taghazout Beach

A quiet day at Taghazout Beach, the highlight of which was a return to Atlantica Park to collect some blinds, ordered two days ago, from Abdullah the awning maker. Surprise, surprise they were not ready ! “You come back tomorrow” said Abdullah. “No can do, today we are moving to Sidi Ifni” which was a lie...... true, but not for a few days yet. “Come back in one hour” says the big man, “They be ready” Give him his due they were ready on time and so began the “Moroccan shuffle” about the price. “1250 DH, because this is expensive material” was opening bid by Abdullah... 700Dh was my instant response which was followed by much wringing of hands and Arabic mumblings by Abdullah. And so it went, bid and counter bid until we arrived at “compromise” price of 800Dh (about £55) and I walked away believing that I had won the day, and Abdullah walked away smiling and KNOWING that he had won the day !! Still, all part of the fun here in Morocco.

Back to camp to discover that a visitor had condemned our proposed next stop in Agadir.... Camping International, as being very crowded and saying, “if you can get in, you'll wish you had not bothered”. So, nothing for it but to visit the site, and off we went (Bryan & Anna) and walked around the camp and sadly it was all true. Very cramped pitches, at 100Dh per night, plus lecky and 10 Dh if you wanted a hot shower, one toilet block to serve 100+ pitches and of the 4 cubicles in each block, 1 throne and 3 “squatters”. On reporting back, the consensus was to remain at Taghazout Beach over the weekend and visit Agadir by bus/taxi in the meantime, which will let us share the news, on Monday, about the parts that Mike/Gwen (Makems) are patiently awaiting.... good luck guys, fingers crossed.

Another sundowner, with some drinks and good chat ended another day........ God! It is tough out here.:Wink::Wink:

Regards, Bryan (& Anna)

If you guys are going into Agadir, go to the French quarter, nice eateries and there is a PORK butcher in the indoor market. Best burger you have ever had in your life is at Mickeys. Just ask for a Mickyburger. Everyone in Agadir knows it.

Hi Dave, thanks for the info. Glad to see you are still keeping a watchful eye on the funsters in Morocco. Hope all is well with you.
