Bit of a trip down memory lane today, or should that be memory river:LOL:

IMG_2811.jpeg

IMG_2814.jpeg

This is the Augsburg canoe slalom course built for the Olympics in 1972, I have been down the course in a C2, that’s a Double Canadian, a bit like a tandem version of the one in the above photo as that is a C1, I will add it was a lot of years ago and I was much younger and quite possibly dafter.

I didn’t say I paddled down though as we spent more time swimming 😮

IMG_2805.jpeg
IMG_2806.jpeg

So these two photos are kayaks, double ended paddle as opposed to single for the Canadian C1 and the big difference is that in a Kayak you are sitting but in thh Canadien you are actually kneeling which gives you much greater reach but more difficult to balance,

This was just a training/practice session for an international event next weekend.

I didn’t know you were so adventures👍
All a bit of a distant memory now Brian, we drove to Merano in Italy for the canoe slalom world championships taking in Augsburg and a trip down the Sanna to Landeck on the way, sleeping in the back of the car alternating between camp sites and car parks, a car park day we could afford cream cake and coffee😊

I picked this up for you jongood

The museum visit is by appointment, luckily I telephoned this morning so they were expecting us, we had it all to ourselves 👍

IMG_2816.jpeg

Did you know that what is now MAN started making printing presses,

IMG_2818.jpeg

IMG_2817.jpeg

They then manufactured the engine designed by Rudolph Diesel,

IMG_2820.jpeg
IMG_2822.jpeg

Conventional piston and con-rod assembly with articulated oil cooling to the piston.

A bit more in MAN,
IMG_2826.jpeg

IMG_2825.jpeg

IMG_2824.jpeg

And then another wander around the town and a beer 😮

IMG_2830.jpeg
IMG_2829.jpeg

This church was quite impressive,

IMG_2831.jpeg

A lot of the centre of Augsburg is virtually traffic free unless you count the trams😏, they have a great system and works really well, we are on the Stellplatz at Königsbrunn and the tram runs 3 times an hour into the centre and then every 10 minutes around the town.

In general the weather has been pretty good, cold to start but that was 5 weeks ago, it rained a week or more ago so we moved from Füssen and the end of the romantic road towards Munich and Augsburg where we are now, raining tonight but had nothing during the day so can’t complain, yesterday was hot hot hot, but the evening cooler so good for sleeping, Wednesday I think we will be at Nuremberg before heading back to MORELO for a free night or two and then possibly Wurzburg and towards the ferry and home.

Enjoy your trip👍

I don't know if you ve motorhomes in germany before but hundreds of great stellplatze. We frequently pick riverside ones, so if we want a lazy day we can watch the boats go by and there's usually some good cyclepaths and a ferry or two involved. 2nd favourite are the small brewery ones, and then if we re passing we drop into N&B Polch for a look and a meal at the imbiss.

Moved on to Nuremberg today but couldn’t get into the Stellplatz (predictably as it only had 7 spaces) so decided to try the campsite as recommended by the Caravan Club😊 I think they only do that to make their sites look good value🤔 I am too embarrassed to tell you the price but we got a € change from €100😮 for two nights.

Very close to the Zeppelin fields and documentation centre but the main exhibition is closed and something temporary is in its place and not really worth €6, I think we came out more confused than when went in “why is it called the documentation centre as I can not find any explanation”? I can sort of guess possibly but wanted to read it.

I thought the main Zeppelin base was at Friedrichshafen on the BodenSee.

[I have flown there with tank gun aiming sights for repair - if anyone does not want to know :giggle:]

She was the driver featured on top gear going round the nureberg ring
Nurburgring as opposed to Nuremberg, no connection as far as I know, the former is the race circuit although they did actually race touring car on the roads around the Zeppelin fields but that was called the Norisring, Sabine would have been quick there as well though I am sure.

I am sure you will be right Geoff, it's called the Zeppelin field as it's a field where somebody just happened to land a Zeppelin, the area was a sports and recreation area but was further developed as a parade ground for the National Socialist Party and where Hitler addressed the masses.

Thinking back to the MAN museum, alongside the traditional diesel engine which they are known for there was a section about future energy and their technology to produce hydrogen, methane and methanol as a fuel but also an interesting reference to an ammonia engine, now I'm no chemist but hydrogen combined with nitrogen produces ammonia which is much easier and safer to transport than hydrogen alone,

https://www.thyssenkrupp.com/en/sto...mmonia-is-the-more-efficient-hydrogen-carrier this is an interesting read on ammonia as a hydrogen carrier,

Or the alternative approach is to just use the ammonia as a fuel,

Factory handover, red carpet treatment and a red bow, two MORELO caps on the dashboard what more could anyone ask for, somebody did say they weren't doing factory handovers for UK van since brexit but not asked.

No not us BTW  we are waiting to see the new vans at Dusseldorf as we have been promised some big changes ;)

Were you in to kayaks and canoeing in the 80's?

I remember watching Paddles Up every week on TV in summer holidays and was pleasantly surprised when my favourite Auntie's next door neighbour popped up and won an episode. Melvyn Jones?

He competed for many years for GB but none of my school friends believed me that "I knew a man on the telly" ::bigsmile:

I noticed they placed a defibrillator in the "delivery room", for the fainthearted, I guess😜

Yes I was paddling around the same time as Melvyn Jones, I was in C2 and my brother paddled Kayak in the youth team, Melvyn lives out near Augsburg now I believe.
