3 years 30,000 miles UK and Europe.. Campsites and off Grid.
We use mobile data when travelling for everything including watching TV. I am happy with my Smarty mobile service in the UK with £20 unlimited data and no contract. However, I didn't realise that they have a 'fair usage' policy in the EU of 12GB per month! Luckily I had only bought a 30GB package this month so not as wasteful as it could have been.

I can add a top up at £1 per GB.

My alternative is to use add on package to my PAYG but they limit their 50GB to 14GB in the EU so that's not great either.

Does anyone else use other data packages that are good value with no contract in the EU?

I assume all providers are applying a 'fair usage' policy ( which imo looks very unfair!)

I see Superdrug mentioned a lot here in regards to value. Maybe worth a look

Apparently Superdrug doesn’t limit EU data at the moment and charges the same as Smarty

Superdrug cut me off after a couple of months but worked ok until then.
Reason given was that the sim was intended for UK users and not living or spending long periods abroad.
I think all UK providers have this proviso in their T&C's, not all apply it universally, some are lucky.

Superdrug sounds useful (not aware they did Sims) however, I'm actually in Spain now so not much use here. Will keep that in mind for next time.

Elaine and I use GiffGaff, provided by O2. No roaming charges AT PRESENT, but I suspect it's only a matter of time. Unless they want to maintain a competitive advantage ...

Buy a local data SIM card but you will need to instal a VPN for the TV use so they still think you are in the UK.

If you look at EE T&C's from January you pay £2 per day for EU roaming

EU roaming

Using the minutes, texts and data in the EU/EEA is no longer included in your plan allowance. However, if you’re heading away this year, you’re in luck – the daily charge doesn’t start until January 2022. From January 2022 you’ll be charged £2 a day to use your allowance in the EU/EEA unless you have an add-on or Smart Benefit that includes roaming.

Which is why I took out the benefit to include roaming no extra charge.

Apart from super drug, assuming they stay as they are, although unlikely as they are on the 3 network.
Then EE has the best allowance fair usage og 50gb od data and no daily charge on some of their plans.

The timing of holidays or phone contract will be important to some to get 2 months allowance available for say one months holiday!

Have you got a link for that please? I’ve just looked on their website and can’t find anything even close to that 😕
Morning.
The currently have sim only 220gb for 20 or 120gb plus one extra free roaming and upto 50gb data roaming for 25.
Or 200gb for 28 not sure if that includes free roaming but all are limited to 50gb of data on roaming.
I just did the 25 sim with roaming for my wife.

I can't paste the link, but the 200gb at 28 a month does include roaming but as I said roaming data is limited to 50gb

Just been on their site ,if you click on sim only contracts it brings up the data requirements then click on benefits , down on the left side you will see the smart sim click on that it will bring 3 choices up £20 £28 £40 , if you read the t&Cs right at the bottom it says there is no roaming charges as long as you have the benefit. don't know how to get the link.

Giffgaff limited to 20GB whilst roaming in the EU.
We buy the Golden Goody Bags at £10 each month, so a 20Gb restriction is purely hypothetical

I need to update my existing 3 contract in the next few days and am thinking of going with this option, same as mentioned by POH

The same deal with them without the "smart benefit" of Roam Abroad looks to be £20 per month, so in effect you're paying £60 a year for roaming.

Just taken out an EE sim only with 1 smart benefit chose roaming which gives me 120gb in UK and 50 gb monthly roaming. 50gb is twice any other operator on a new contract at moment.
Also without roaming you will pay between £1 and £2 per day to use your UK data.
So for me this was a no brainer.

I agree. You are correct.

However, my logic is that is using 3 network so will follow suit of 3 soon.

But
I could well be wrong in my assumption.
