Tried to book Llanberis touring park next July for Friday and Saturday night. Lucy has a Marathon to run and we have stopped there several times before. It’s very expensive but convenient for Llanberis.

Couldn‘t get a booking to work online so rang them today. No, we can’t book, unless we only book for 7 nights!

Lucy did try to explain we are both at work so can’t book a whole week but it was tough. We can ring closer to the date apparently and they can give us the weekend if they have anything free. It was so manic this year with people booking in and out that they have moved to 7 days only. You would have bought they would be pleased to have the custom.

Lucy has sent an email to the Management of Morris Leisure as the Warden said Betws Y Coed has gone the same way.

We won’t be staying again, doesn’t make you feel all that welcome when you are asked to ring for the scraps that are left once they try and flog the weeks off.

Hope other sites don’t follow suit, given the price rises this year and the anticipated opening up of cheap foreign travel next year, it doesn’t bode well for the future of those who try and squeeze people for every last drop.

July will be fully booked. That's why they want full weeks, not just a weekend.

It's their place and they can charge what they like.

But conversely, live by the sword and die by the sword.
I think they will do fine. North Wales isn’t flush with sites, they know their business model, it’s annoying for us but doubt they will give a monkeys.

Another place to avoid spending any money. Perhaps when the two weeks package holiday people start booking abroad again they'll realise they want us back. Hopefully we'll have found alternatives to this kind of thing and they'll struggle. I'll feel really sorry for them. Actually no, no I won't.

Why would you want a week in llanberis, half a day walk around the village, trip up Snowdon and you have done it, you have to travel out for anything else anyway.

Yes, many sites I’ve stayed on in parts of the med insist on a weeks stay in summer.

If you stay at playa Montroig and want a sea front pitch. Not only does it have to be whole weeks , It has to be Saturday to Saturday

Some people just like to sit in a field for a week. :cautious:

School holidays !! always try to keep clear of them , site in Whitby does the same thing and on special events minimum is 4 nights .

Personally, given the choice between Llanberis and the other side of the pass, I'd camp at Llyn Gwynant in any case.
It's a nicer site, it's on the lake, so you can swim from your front door, or launch your own boat or hire one.
It does have a few lake front pitches
In high season they have their own pub and Pizza on site.
If you have a bike it's a 10 min ride from the PYG pub to the site (But substantially longer in the other direction, site to PYG pub!)
It's on the route of the circular Snowden cycle ride (and possibly your marathon?)
It's walking distance to the Watkin and PYG tracks up Snowdon (Both of which are better than the Lanberis route up)

FYI, in anything bigger than a car the site is only accessible from the Beddgelert direction, as there is a proper hairpin at the entrance, you can turn around at the end of the lake if needed.

It isn’t the school holidays.

I would steer clear of them but I can’t leave the kids on their own. 😂

Thanks for the tip, will check that one out.

I did type a response but deleted it…. I’m fed up with the short sightedness of the uk sites…. Not that I stay on them, probably because I don’t expect anything different from the money grabbers while you can and sod the regulars attitude…😔

Just tried to make a booking at Lyn Gwynant, £72 for the weekend.

Clicked book and found the extra car is mandatory, then the booking fee is mandatory, oh and also the EHU is mandatory, oh and the dog is extra. That will be £95 please………

I now sound like a whinging tight git, but I can really see why most people who can, give up on the UK and tour abroad. This is the reason we usually use CL’s, it’s just a pity there aren’t more in North Wales.

We will use a pub stop and I can drop Lucy off for the Marathon. 😒

I was just going to suggest a pub stop if there’s one handy enough. The sites need to realise that most motorhomers don’t stay in one place for a whole week.

Considering all 4 of us had drinks and food last week at a pub stop in North Wales and the cost was £46 in total. It makes sense when the sites cost that much anyway. 👍

It most certainly does for us as we eat out just about every night when we’re away. Staying at the pub saves the cost of a site as well as walking to, from the site to the pub. I think more of us will be using pub stops in future. This is better, cheaper for us and more money to the landlord.

If you are a tourist business in a very popular place but with a modest few months to make a years living. Insisting on a minimum weeks booking is not money grabbing at all, it’s just good business sense. Someone booking one Saturday night could cost them a whole weeks booking and cause them endless grief trying to sort out odd days camping. I’ve seen this practice on sites in France and Spain in July and August too.
