Just parked the car at Millers Bridge in Ambleside. Plenty of mohos parked for the day but there were two in the football club carpark looking like overnighting . Just wondering if the council had changed its mine. Said no camping on the carpark signage

Pop over and ask them if you can.. :xsmile:

The football club lets you overnight for a small fee, the phone number is on their sign.

CS/CL or licensed site?
Its is not a CL or CS.
I've stayed there a couple of times after taking part in races near by. No amenities, just parking.
If you look on the football clubs web page I think they have the contact number for parking.

I heard that Graham who used to allow Motorhomes to overnight there has started up again.

Thanks. The NPA hasn't caught them out yet then :)

He would be daft if he did so without permission from the NPA. After last time he'd likely really get hammered.

It's a pity as it's a great location (stayed there for a (legal) Fun rally years ago) but until the NPA requirements can be satisfied they are unlikely to let anyone get away with running a caravan site which doesn't meet the legal requirements.

Cant see the problem of a cs type of site down their. Its ok for a 500 plus carpark.
There should be no problem with a CS/CL because the exemption obviates the requirement for planning consent and a licence.
The problem with Miller Field is that it had neither of those and accommodated more than 5 vans, which was (and is) fine for a rally by an exempted organisation but not otherwise.
It wasn't surprising, then, when the NPA took action.
The football club will probably face the same action if the NPA realise that it is also breaching the legislation.

How do you check if the football club is doing this legally?
The only time I have seen more than 5 vans there is when the mountain marathon stars in Rothway Park and competitors can camp there. That’s the only time I stayed there on the pitch itself and not the car park are and the you have been able to use the toilets and showers.

Perhaps this location needs referring to Jim for MHFUN to register and offer exemption?

Ask them if they have a CS/CL exemption certificate or a site licence. If neither then they are only allowed very restricted camping use.

Only guessing but possibly the marathon has special permission from the NPA. Again, asking the organisers or the NPA would be the way to go.

Dont know the legality but i will be phoning for a spot next time i am up that way😀
Aiding & abetting?

Seriously, given the history of Miller Field next door, they need to be careful not to leave themselves open to punitive action by the NPA.

Twice as many as legal then
or it could be they have the correct permissions.
Given that Millers Field can be easily seen from the football pitch, how long they have been letting vans over night there and the prominent location of the football pitch it would seem strange that Milers Field got shut but not the the football club.

You're right, it could be that they have the correct permissions. They don't publicise that on their dedicated Twitter page though and they aren't on the CS/CL list of any of the major exempted organisations. They aren't listed by any proper camp
Have you asked them, as discussed yesterday?

I don't know the answer as to why no action has been taken against the football club but the reasons for Miller Field being stopped were well publicised at the time - it was because of deliberate flouting of the legislation with no attempt to obtain proper permissions. Not surprising that the NPA reacted as it did.
