I don't think I mentioned this in my replies to midges and thought it was worth its own post. Though I found the Skin So Soft really good there were the occasional bites (I am so allergic to bites I have had to have antibiotic treatments more than once and have a pen thing for wasp stings after anaphylactic shock one time) and this was really helpful

Not certain how it works but all I can say is it did for me and at £4 well worth taking with you to Scotland

Midges are guaranteed in Scotland so worth having on board at that price. We spent a fortune in mosquito repellant for a trip to the Caribbean over the new year, did we get bitten or even see a mosquito, nowhere!

No good for midges but fine for mozzie bites.

But at the risk of seeming a bit evangelical the best midge repellant is Smidge. You will probably have to buy it on line though it is readily available in places like Fort William. Slap plenty of the stuff on, more than the instructions suggest. Much better than the Avon stuff.
