There is many threads on here re how to beat the dreaded bestie that is the midge!

Of course if you are outside you need to take some stern measures to stop the biting.

But here’s a little tip for lessening the bites when in your MH.

I bought this little beauty for a miserly £7 and have been more than happy with its performance.

It’s a camping LED light with a mosi/midge zapper!

I plugged it in on my recent trip to Loch Lomond (currently still there), and it has mopped up the midges that managed to bypass my door flyscreen (you’ve got to be fast!).

Very happy with the zap/kill rate!!

and where from please ?

I ordered something similar for forthcoming trip but I think mine might be just a led light to attract mozzies and a fan to blow them into a chamber where the get dried after death.
Runs from usb outlet, low power consumption and silent according to the writeup.
I just got to hope it comes before I leave

I bought one yesterday on the off chance it actually worked so glad it does, I got mine from CMC National Ragley Hall. Instructions says to make sure the bung is in the USB charge point and run the mesh under a tap to clean dead insects off.

Outdoor Revolution’s Lumi-Mosquito Light is a convenient 2 in 1 LED lantern light and ultra-violet mosquito killer, designed especially to ensure a superb night’s sleep and keep your tent/awning mosquito and fly free through eliminating those pesky insects before they have chance to settle.

Completely rain-proof and as effective as it is simple, this accessory is complete with three brightness settings (allowing it to function as a night-light, regular roof light or a particularly dazzling setting for those dusky nights).

It features an ergonomic fold-down hanger and a USB charging point.

Features:
  • 2 in 1 Ultra-Violet Mosquito Killer & LED Lantern Light
  • Simple & Effective
  • Integrated Fold-Down Hanger
  • 3 Brightness Settings
  • USB Charging Point
  • Rain-Proof
  • Compatible with '12V USB Charging & Power Hub'

I have one of the fan type I bought last year. It doesn't work very well though though the theory is sound.

Reading the blurb for the Outdoor Revolution lamp, it apparently has an amber setting that does NOT attract mosquitoes or midges.

I respect that some of us might not be happy killing any creatures and therefore will just buy a normal light without the zapper, but are there really some who are happy to kill all other phototactic flying insects, but are friends of mozzies and midges ?

I’m seeking enlightenment (pardon the pun) on the point of that setting.

Is it that the non amber setting, is full UV, which is an attractor and may bring more mozzies and midges in to the area, than would otherwise be there. Would that not also be the case for the other insects that are still attracted to the amber ?

I have always wondered if the killing machines do attract more beasties than otherwise there would be without them. Surly, rather than attracting them and then killing them .... repulsing them in the first instance would be a much better idea. Could never see the point of the honey pot on the table and then flailing around with a swatter to kill the blighters you've attracted in the first place. Much better, put the honey pot (light) beside the van of your neighbour, then let them sort out "their" problem

I’d agree in principle with that - in my case I switched on the zapper / lights once I was snug in my van for bed, so it only was going to euthanise those poor little darlings that were sharpening their fangs In preparation for a midnight feast.

Besides it is better for my wall furnishings to zap them rather than smear the crushed midges down the walls.

I am a biting beasty magnet, I can attract them from miles around, I have spent years trying to find a product that works by repulsing them, creams, lotions, potions and even food, Marmite being one that is alleged to work. My lifes work, so far, a huge failure, I remain eaten, bitten, stung and generally abused by nature. We have plants around our property, the Citronelle family, Lavender by the score, starting to smell rather nice this time of year, but still beasties. I await with baited breath to hear then results of this latest invention.

I've just bought a UV Insect killer lamp from Lidl, £11.99. Battery powered, with micro USB lead so can be used from any USB socket. Not had chance to try it out yet, so can't speak for its effectiveness.

Our last weekend at Tayvallich was pretty bad for midges and sitting outside, I resorted to a midge hood.

The Outdoor Revolution light was left on overnight each night and collected a fair few of the little blighters by morning. Not a single midge bite from the entire trip ??

Only downside, the microUSB end of the cable stopped charging unless it was held in place. Amazon immediately refunded it and I will happily replace it before my next trip to visit the midges.
