The microwave on our Elddis 115 keeps cutting out - seems to overheat - any advice?

Is it while cooking steamy foods , as poor ventilation can cause shutdown ?

Suspect that it’s not well enough ventilated……I presume it’s in a cupboard recess…..?

It is in a cupboard recess with two small covered ventilation outlets at the back of the van.

Had a similar issue. Microwave would run okay for 4 mins or so then cut out. You had to wait a further 3 or 4 mins to be able to start it again.

Spoke to Russell Hobbs about it and they agreed to exchange it (presumed it was a faulty thermal cut out). Swapped it out myself but at the same time added a (240v) fan to draw in additional cooling and ventilation. Like you, the microwave appeared "wet" with steam when in use. Sorted now though.

As a footnote I've been lead to believe that "built in" microwave machines should have different internal workings ( to handle heat etc) than free standing ones.

Our Russel Hobbs started doing the same a couple of weeks ago.
Have taken it out of its cupboard and brought it in the house to try
It ran for nearly 5 minutes before cutting out
I made a point of looking to see if the fan was working and it wasn't, so I suspect its this
Have searched on line and cant get any results for a fan for this model (RHM2063-AH)
Our Elddis 115 is nearly 3 years old, so not covered by warranty
Unless anyone knows where to get a fan, i guess im going to have to reolace it

Does it happen on hookup? Or only when on an the inverter? If the inverter isn't producing a good quality sine wave, then the electronics in the microwave will work harder and less efficiently and get hotter.

It needs ventilation all round, not just at the back.
Just a one inch gap top and sides should be enough.
Appears the cupboard is too small for it or the oven is too big

In the case of ours, I brought it in the house to check, so not EHU, wiring in the MoHo or on EHU

In the case of our Elddis 115, there is a good amount of space above and at the sides

They are relatively speaking, quite cheap. The trouble is I believe that that model is a free standing type that has been "built in" . In the 120 there is a mushroom vent through the roof and a protected vent in the van side wall. Personally I think the issue is related to the moisture generated when cooking not venting out properly....hence my DIY fix of a fan to force air around the cooker. Since I did this the inside of the cooker is much dryer. Coincidently, it was cooking rice the triggered our issue too.

If you were to go down the road of a microwave specifically designed for "Built in" use, you'd find them much more expensive.

Found the the fan motor was open circuit, so have ordered a replacement based on the part number showing on the motor YZ-E6120-M51D
I bought the motor from ebay, so Its coming from China and will take a couple of weeks to arrive, but will post the result once fitted

Unfortunately the motor from China was also faulty, but at least he gave a refund including the postage. Have sourced another in the UK, which should be here early next week.
Thinking I should buy a spare, cos sods law would stop it from breaking down if I've got a spare....

I seem to remember dear old Techno posting a mod he did on his van. I think he fitted a computer fan to improve air flow. Worth a search.

Fan motor arrived and fitted. All working OK now
Probably should have improved the air circulation, but needed to get it installed before we went away

Apart from heating up a mug of water to check it worked, we haven't used the microwave in the motorhome in the two years we've had it.
One day it will come in useful I'm sure.

Hi there, I have the same problem with my 2020 115, microwave fan has packed up, co firmed by the dealer lat week, tried to claim under warranty with no luck, dealer said a new microwave from Elldis is £245 plus £145 to fit it, managed to find one new on the Motorhome and caravan club website £72 . Can I ask how did you lift up the front panel as shown in the picture to remove the old microwave I fit it myself.
thanks.

Hello there
When you open the microwave door, you will see at the bottom a strip of wood with 2 screw cover stickers that you peel off to findcthe screws. All a bit fiddly, but doable with care
Hope this helps

You might want to think of some additional venting I understand that you can buy the mushroom roof dome with the built in fan to help force air out. I used a mains powered computer fan to pull cool air in. Best wishes with the refit....

Hi There,

I have managed to locate the screws hidden under the cover stickers as you mentioned, trouble I have now is that the cupboard door will not open enough to remove the microwave due to it hitting the plastic cover that houses the habitation door flyscreen, did you also have to remove the door flyscreen as well.

Thanks again.

Hi there
Sorry for the delay is getting back to you
I carefully strained it to the left to get it past the flyscreen
A bit worrying when i started, but everything "gave" a little
