I've got a MK6 Transit and the reverse lights have stopped working, I've checked the fuse with a meter, changed the fuse anyway, I've checked/changed bulbs but still no lights. I'm guessing the switch on the gearbox has failed, this is where I'm stuck. I can't see the switch from above or below the gearbox. Does anyone know where it is located?

I did find that when searching but I still couldn't locate it on my van, mine is newer and a 2.0l. I would think it would be the same gearbox though?
I can’t comment as location is a close secret 🤣

If you've hot a meter then just check for volts at the bulb contacts.
If yes - it's the bulb.
If not check for volts between the bulb +ve and a good earth. Assuming none, Then just work your way back checking at the plug connection, then the switch, the feed to the switch back to the fuse. At some point you'll find the problem, but it's vital to work from one end to the other checking every connection / junction. Bit tedious but a logical process of elimination will win the day. Bet you a fiver the fault will be in the last place you look.

Is it front wheel drive or rear wheel? Is it cable gear change?
If any help I have a 2007 fwdrive & the reverse switch is located on the right hand side at the top of the gear box towards the back left ,underneath the water & intercooler hoses & to the left of the bracket holding the gear cables.

Its sounds like It's hid up? It's a front wheel drive with cables. When you say bracket holding the cables do you mean where the cables meet the gear selector mechanism?

yes it is hidden away to the left of them if I remember correctly. That's where the wiring plug connecter is anyway. Just been & had a look & it is hard to see from above but is immediately to the left & below the bracket that the gear cables attach to. I only knew where it vaguely was having changed the clutch a few months back.I would have taken a photo but it is nigh on impossible with all the hoses above. If you still can't spot it I will try to get a photo in the morning.

This could be down to operator error, maybe. I took the gear selector off when it seized earlier in the year, I cleaned it up and refitted it. The reverse lights have worked since then, I wonder if the plug I disconnected ha come loose since?

Thanks Gus, I'll give it a look tomorrow.
