A motorhome!

we are still learning
Buy a quality one and it will not scratch the paintwork. It will protect it. £200 will buy a cheap cover..........£700 and above.........now that is a different game altogether. Had both....Maypole did the job but not good enough. Bought into a quality one for our Delaware and not looked back. Its a bugger to put on but ....IT DOES..protect the motorhome and I have not had a problem with it at all apart from Carolyn being too short to help lift it over the truck! Bless her!! (y);)

Thanks for the replies everybody. Paul, my van is 6.9mtrs so no good. It seems to me that after trawling the second hand ads on line that a lot of people are selling their covers having never been used or used only once, so does it become one of those things that you think you need? I need to ponder this a little longer!!!!!

Twelve months and still learning.
I use a Protec cover on our PVC over winter, They are excellent quality and fit perfectly. Provided the cover is fitted when the van is clean, it will not scratch or damage anything. They are incredibly breathable so should any condensation form on the van, it evaporates through the cover very quickly.

Second that….we had Protecs on all of our previous vans throughout winters. Made sure van was spotless before covering and checked straps regularly. Now we have a caravan with a “Specialised“ cover which seems just as good. Has solar panel n aerial covered bespoke and the back is drop down which makes fitting easier also requested bigger storage bag and wheel covers. Protec cover was a wrestling match to fold and store in provided bag. I always liked unwrapping in spring to see the lovely gleaming van. You get what you pay for methinks.

We had a cover with our first motorhome, being newbies I have no idea as to what the make was but it took off like a kite one day while mum was hanging onto it in galeforce winds, it carried her away and she came back to earth wrapped up in it.

I have a maypole cover on mine, hasn't scratched the van at all, people buy them and then find out how difficult they are to actually get on the van without taking off with the slightest of winds. I've only got one on mine because of awater leak else wouldn't bother. I did have a protec roof cover fitted perfectly but rotted after 3 years.

Con: They cover the solar panel(s).
I've emailed/called a number of suppliers if they make one with clear window to expose solar panel but no luck so far.
“Specialised” do made to measure with solar panels fitted where requested. It was a tad difficult measuring exactly where ours was and I took photos of the roof from the bedroom window to my ensure it made sense ! Result fantastic. I also liked the bigger storage bag option - being useless at folding. And as a PS …..the efficacy of the solar panel has not been compromised.
