I have just taken delivery of a Maxxair roof fan. The suppliers are not open until 10.00 am, so hopefully someone can put me straight before I complain. There are 2 roof ‘hole’ sizes. Ours is to fit an existing hole, the roof vent it’s replacing is 40cms. The fan surround measures just under 35cm which means there is a large gap on all 4 sides. The optional fan is to fit a 35cm hole, Should there be a gap, or has the item been boxed incorrectly.
Thanks

Being an American product it is designed to fit a standard 12" x 12" aperture (35cm)

European motorhomes have vents which in the main are 40cm x 40cm

Did you order a 40cm x 40 cm?

Yes, the model number on the box is for a 40x40. The cover plate on the roof would cover the existing gap and I wondered if that’s the only difference between the two sizes. Maybe it need packing in the roof cavity.

I didn't fit ours myself but no mention was made about packing and it looks a snug fit. I'm inclined to think you've got a wrong supply there.

It looks wrong to me,
I’ve telephoned Jacksons and spoke to their technical department and he tells me that it’s correct. I don’t want to pull the existing roof light out if it’s wrong. Jacksons told me that it doesn’t matter if it’s not a snug fit as long as the exterior facia plate gives good coverage and is sealed correctly.

It's been a while since I fitted ours, but I seem to remember the outside top flange has a bit of a ridge so it sits nicely in a 40cm hole?

The interior of ours is definitely 35cm though (and was bought to replace a 40cm mini-heki)

Thanks Wissel, we are replacing a 40cm mini Heki, so it sounds like it will be ok. It will be over my bed so I’ll notice soon enough if it leaks!!

I'm also interested in fitting/having fitted a Maxiair fan, in the 40cm existing Heki over our bed.
I'm not overly confident at the prospect of undertaking this task.
I have two questions - (1) Where and how do I pick the internal wiring up to power the fan ?
And probably more importantly - (2) Where could I have one installed somewhere in the South ?

Wissel posted a video a while ago giving very detailed info on the fitting of a 400*400

We have an option of two 40cm Heki, , both of them are a fraction of an inch away from the sat dish when it’s in its down position. I stood on the bed and managed to squeeze my top half through one of them, but I can’t operate the sat dish at the same time. I’m going to have to go on the roof when the rain stops and then try to fathom if I can swop one of them for the Maxxair. If not it will have to replace the fantastic one in the kitchen. It really needs to be at the back of the MH as I’m always hot and I sleep over the garage. Himself sleeps in the drop down bed, complete with 13 tog sleeping back and a thick fleece liner, so he doesn’t need to be anywhere near any fresh air.
As for power, the kitchen option is already wired, the other two options mean picking up a feed at the nearest light switch, I can probably do it with only a couple of inch of cable to hide.

Just like mine. I love it to bits 👍

The image appears to show some cable trunking from over cupboards to the fan. Is this the generally excepted way to run the power source, or is it possible to pick up an internal wire to run from somewhere?
I don't imagine I'm likely to have any wiring overhead necessarily, as there are no ceiling lights in the area of my installation. But just trying to gauge what's likely to be expected.

Yes it is I’m going to change it to no a thinner one or I’m going to brave trying to route it through the insulation 🤪 I took a feed from my fridge live as it runs with the 12 volt systems turned off. I did that so I can leave it on low when the dogs are in the van. 👍🥃

Fitted one to my van 2 weeks ago, the outer surround fitted snug to the hole that was left 40x40 and the fan just sat inside that frame.

Feed wise lucky I had a light close by so I just uses a fish tape and past it through the ceiling board to the light.

Owe, one big problem I had after fitting was when the fan was closed it hit my satellite dish and I could not move the fan or the satellite dish so I had to heat up the roof light plastic and bend it info form so now it passes the dish and folds plat.

Thanks.

We replaced the aircon unit with ours so the guys said it was easy, just pulled it through. But as it happens there is also a join in the ceiling coverings, covered with a flat strip that they said they could easily have used.
Unfortunately, same flat strip was 3 ins too short after fitting the Maxxfan so they're looking out for a new bit for me next time I go in.

Fit it yourself it fits in a standard roof light hole, I unfortunately got a company to fit mines and they charged me twice the price of the van , so if getting someone else to fit it get a price .

It’s a bit Heath Robinson. I made a template of our Maxair with the assistance of my chief helper. We have just fitted it over two separate roof lights and then put the Oyster up. It misses both of them so gives options as to where we install it.

Hi I had mine fitted by Sunstore ,they are at Goring by sea

I did mine by myself above the bed removed the old heki. And it fitted no problems I took a feed from the fridge, that way I can still use the fan wile the 12volt controll panel is switched off. At 10% it uses near nothing but keeps a good airflow going. Good if the dogs are in the van. If I can do it anybody can do it. 👍🥃😷🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

One question from me... do they sit up in that almost 30 deg position all the time or do they collapse down to sit flat like a normal skylight?

They collapse "flat" - well the same as a normal opening rooflight.
