I am wondering if I can upgrade my satellite dish to a more automatic one (without the screaming satellite finder) or do I need to replace the whole system? Did I read somewhere that a large dish is necessary to get Uk tv in Spain?

You're supposed to disconnect the sat finder once you've found the satellite. You should have a flylead which you connect to bypass the sat finder.

For locating a signal Sat link as 6906 is similar to what I have. They work well, about £48 on ebay. You will need a very large dish in Spain, according to how far South you intend to go.

Oh I just turn it down to stop the noise. It usually works well but the pitch isn’t level and no chance of getting it level but the van next to me has an automatic system and gets tv although not level either

Thanks is it automatic or would I still need to mess around twisting the pole?

You would still need to align the dish but it's much quicker and has a small tv screen so you immediately see the results.

Another consideration could be data and a mi fi for tv reception instead of a dish setup ? I’m not sure I’d buy a satellite dish next time we change vans. Data seems to be getting cheaper and more stable.

its simpler just to use a connector which has two male ends ...... though in the set up they have, i understand why they leave it connected permanently

You just need to slightly adjust the azmith (vertical angle) to compensate for the slope of the van.

I had a manual "through the roof" sat dish for 8 years. My current van came with an automatic Oyster 85cm dish. Nice to just press a button but, in my opinion, not as bullet proof as the simple manual system.

The Astra 2 spot beam (transmitting all UK channels) extends to just south of Bordeaux. Further south only able to pick up English news channels on the Astra 2 wide beam. A few English channels available on Astra 1. Basically, as soon as you travel outside the Astra 2 spot beam, your viewing options are extremely limited. Which is why many who roam EU-wide are switching to digital streaming. You can buy a lot of data for the cost of an automatic sat system. However, I've been on UK campsites with zero digital signal so good to have a backup. Suggest you keep your present system and invest in digital.

Luckily I downloaded from iPlayer so not going completely nuts with rain and no tv. Moving on tomorrow to a site just like you mentioned. 2 bar phone signal and not much more internet but at least it’s on the beach 😃
