About to buy again!
Exp
Several years
I have just bought a Autotrail Tracker RB 2020 but have yet to pick it up. Reading thought the online manual it says the Max Gross Weight is 4250kg and the mass in running order is 3500kg. Will see the VIN plate on Monday but can somebody explain which is the maximum weight of the van I am allowed fully loaded. Read lots of threads but am still confused.

Gross weight.
Mass in running order is usually the van, driver, fuel and some water before any personal stuff is loaded .....BUT...every converter interprets mass in running order differently

4250Kgs is your Maximum Gross Weight, which means you have a payload of only 750Kgs, ie, the MIRO deducted from the MGW.

HTH,

Jock. :)

The first number to work with is the revenue weight that is shown on the V5. That is what the authorities will use as the maximum weight allowed on the road, they have no interest in what is stated elsewhere. That weight can be changed and you will find lots of discussions on here about re plating.

The MAM (max authorised mass, aka gross weight) is the TOTAL it can weight with all your kit, pets, family, you, fuel, water etc on board, you cannot go over this figure. However you need to also take into account the axle weights which will have their own maximum capacity, eg it's likely to be 2100 front and 2400 rear (yes I know they add up to more than 4250 but that just allows some leeway). This means you cannot load the axles above their maximum capacity as well as not go over 4250kg max.

The MIRO is irrelevant to be honest, it's what the actual weight of the vehicle is when unladen that matters as this will include any extras fitted since it came out of the factory, the difference between this and the MAM is your payload, so taking into account the loading limits for the axles, you should be able to make use of it all if you load it correctly.

Thanks. 750kg is better than I expected. Still need to be careful I know.
Yes, especially as pointed above out re axle weights, and your age should a medical be required to retain your C1, (3 x yearly).

I have another 5 x years before I'm in the age/C1 category, though I will be renewing my Class 1 HGV & PSV in Jan - March time, which then becomes an annual medical . :(

Cheers,

Jock. :)
