Since 2021
Bought a 21 (700 miles) and just over a month later it is "off the road" for a month now due to a Matter Sensor Issue.
The FIat Ducato has had an issue with Matter Sensor since 2017 from what I understand.
It is still an issue with 2021 vehicles.
I presume Fiat are still manufacturing Ducato vans BUT the sensor is unavailable for existing owners who's vehiciles are
off the road.
In hindsight I would not have bought a vechicle that has such a common/high potential for failure and repair is currently
unavailable.
I serioulsly advise anyone looking at buying a motorhome serioulsy investigate the Matter Sensor issue as Fiat appear more
interested in manufacturing more vehicles, rather than ensuring owners of very recent vechicle are able to keep them on the
road.

What is a Matter Sensor, if I may ask, and how does affect the van to the degree that its off the road?
Curious.😳

Causes an "Engine Management" fault and Stop/Start does not available.
As an engine managment fault is an MOT failure it is "an offence" to drive a vehicle with a known fault,
especially when it is an emissions issue.

Is this a DPF sensor? If so stocks are arriving into the dealers so chase them up and don’t worry, it happens with other makes so you get it fixed and enjoy.😀

There are ones available on the internet
As of 27th July 2022 I've called 20+ Fiat dealers and Fiat Part # 46345727 is not available in UK and multiple back orders with each dealer.
Contacted several dealers in Netherlands/Germany/Italy/France and part # 46345727 not available.
Currently part # 46345727 back ordered with no delivery date.

I've been calling dealers in UK & seveal European countries and there no stock and no delivery date.
Naturally if you know different please advise dealer that has stock of part # 46345727.

Understood, but is your van off the road because it physically cannot be used as it will cause further possible mechanical damage, or have you personally decided to take your van off the road as it is showing this engine management fault, which, may or may not , be cause to stop using the van as you may be producing some spurious emissions?
Just curious, as I have never heard of this, and as this Motorhome Fun site is such a superb fountain of knowledge of anything Motorhomey, I am surprised that if this is such a major issue with relatively newish Fiat Ducato models, that it has not reared its head before now.
I am however, not questioning your own obviously concerned thoughts. 😊

Aha………understand now.
This is referring to Diesel Particulate Filters, I think.
Just different wording with “Matter Sensor”.???

It's documented as a "Downstream Matter Particle Sensor".
As I mentioned it seems to be a known issue but why has it not been resolved in 5+ years.
Not a good sales point but if a vehicle has a known issue the seller is legally abliged to disclose known issues, that applies
to private or trade.

My own independent garage has repaired 2 recently and my Mechanic says he can get them on eBay, so can I suggest you take a look and steer your mechanic in the right direction.

Ok, understood.
Dont ever buy a Skoda then because in their parts manual for spares used in the RAC rallies, they used to have an official part number for ordering
czecoslovakian (?) lager for the race team pit mechanics! 😂
Good luck though with your plight. 👍

Component shortages are having a huge impact on the production of new vehicles. It isn't just semi-conducters but other items like sensors. Inevitably, this also impacts on spares for existing vehicles. Its annoying, mine was off the road for over six weeks at the beginning of the year because of the non-availability of an oil sensor but Covid and a war have had an impact.

As i added to my post it is ad blue only post sept2019. not 5 + years. The differential pressure DPF sensor that was a problem since 2013 is different.
Just be thankful its not a twin egr model.

Sensor does not stop the vehicle being used but as stated above, an engine management light is an MOT failure, so in the eyes of the law if you have a managment fault it should be fixed as soon as possible. If stop by Police and it was noticed it would mean insurance void, I prefer not to take the risk.
More significantly I just did not think it would take more than 6 weeks to get a new sensor, dealer has fitted on from a for sale unit for now to get mine back on the road. No eta for NEW sensor.

Sensor control unit has Semi-Conductor chip in it.
