M20 Closure this Weekend

Glad to miss it. I love near Ashford and it’s been a nightmare.

Thanks for the heads up we are getting the tunnel Sun evening. We go across country as we stop off at BIL at Lydd then often go via Ashford I'll make sure we go via Hythe.

Where are you off to?

Germany for 2½ weeks, a couple of weeks probably around the Mosel then Caravan Salon. Back home for 1½ weeks then somewhere warm for 6 weeks.
You really need to retire Helen. :ROFLMAO:

I expect so, I don't 'arf get it on the ear from the boss for spending so much time on the forum. I do them for my own record as much as anything else.
I'll try not to leave the waste open on the Chunnel this time. :D

We are off on the Chunnel sun eve as well and received this update from eurotunnel. Didn’t say it was closed just roadworks. Looks like we will have to find a backroad from Portsmouth. Any ideas?

The email I received from Eurotunnel said M20 from junction 9 to 11 closed from Friday night until Monday morning. Saturday afternoon crossing for us. I guess it will be A2 and M2. Also a chunk of the A13 closed for the weekend so the A127 will be busy. I'm going to give it at least an hour earlier than normal.

It's only 2 junctions closed so depending on traffic build upon the M20 may still be quicker as the diversion will only be for the 2 junctions via the A20.

This is the way we go from the A27 in Lancing except we detour to Lydd.

Not a pleasant drive I feel. I've done it before

To each his own, I guess. My eldest is doing part of this route from Newhaven to Portsmouth/Somerset tomorrow, he's not driven on English roads for many years. I wonder what he'll say.

We are catching the train Sunday lunchtime and Eurotunnel email said that the M20 is closed between junctions 9 and 11 for the weekend, so we expect to use the A20 as it follows the same route, perhaps we will use it all the way to the tunnel depending on traffic.
Ziglisa we are in Emsworth close to Portsmouth/Chichester and find the A3 route to Folkestone the quickest route, though not the most picturesque compared to the crosscountry route via Garwick. The south coast route is very slow nice but not if you need to get there on time!

certainly a good bikers road.

On a dry Sunday morning we can frequently be seen riding along there going to visit the Cafe on the Cliff at Capel le Ferne, though not this weekend as it will be SOLID both ways with the M20 closed :)

If I had to go to Eurotunnel over the weekend it would be M2, A2 then across towards Folkstone on A260 through Densole.

In May I took the M20 from the tunnel home it would have been a jolly sight quicker across country, I won't make that mistake again.

Our train isn’t until 22:20, so we have plenty of time. We aim to leave at 17:00 in order to get there for the 2 hr before slots and may get an earlier train. As long as we can still get to tesco at jct 12 for fuel, we should be fine.

We are on the 20:20 was going to go down to BIL on Sat but there is a dance on so last chance to dance before going away so will go Sun afternoor. BIL only 30 min from Chunnel.

Swift update on the traffic trying to avoid M20 closure, M2 is currently stationary between Jnc 5 and 7 coast bound, A20 is also stationary. Need to allow yourselves plenty of time if going to Eurotunnel or Dover for the port.

Hope everyone got to the tunnel in time. We had a very eventful drive. Traffic not too bad, but before we even moved the wheels; “check engine” light on. Thinking it was a fault due to torrential downpour, we set off, but I bottled it by Guildford and called breakdown. Still loads of time left. 40 mins later error code “pdf filter sensor” clears and we are now sitting on the train 1 1/4 hrs early having topped up with tesco fuel at much cheapness. Bring on cite Europe.
