I am looking at any regulations for different countries which restrict the time that a foreign vehicle, without its owner/keeper/driver, may remain in a country.

I know that if the owner stays in a country long enough to require he/she to register for Residence then there are normally requirements to re-register their vehicles locally.

I am concentrating my enquiry on a non-resident of a country leaving a vehicle there. I know Spain has restrictions, but I have not heard of the same for other countries.

I think most countries attach the concept of residence to persons, but do any have the same concept for chattels, including vehicles?

Most insurance companies stipulate a couple of days unattended. Check your policy wording.

AFAIK most countries require you to remove the vehicle at the same time as you do yourself . That is why you need a customs carnet , and get it signed(stamped) in and out .

Maybe in some countries outside Europe, but I do not know of any carnet requirement for ferrytunnel travel within Europe.

I am also not aware of any requirement to remove a vehicle with oneself, or that there is any record kept of vehicles travelling with one. Not like Turkey where the vehicle or boat is stamped into one's passport.

Can you please quote legislation to either effect.

I did not think your question specifically concerned EU countries . Current situation in EU countries vis a vis UK probably will change considerably in very near future !

My understanding is that foreign registered vehicles from one European state can remain in any other European state for up to 180 days.

For the previous two winters, we kept our van in Spain for 6 months. But we flew backwards and forwards from the UK, so we didn't exceed 90 days in any 180, on a rolling basis.

And I believe such a formula will most likely continue to work within the regulations, after the UK's exit transition has expired on 31 December. But of course I won't know that for sure until the full terms of our departure from the EU have been finalised.

Most countries its 6 months, the UK is the same once you become a non resident, when you become a resident in Poland you have 30 days to change to Polish plates. 🤔 Bob

Comfort/Aviva have a limit of 48 hours where the van can be left unattended.

Longer extensions are available, at a cost, but they insist that the van is then classed as "in storage" and it has it be in a secure, locked (off road) place.

Parked up on a pitch in a campsite doesn't count.
