I have just read a message from info@lyndontop.com That there is a move by Rutland County Council to close them down and that they need help from campers to make a case.
I would be very upset if this was to happen after this many years of stopping off there. I certainly would not be stopping at any caravan site instead, they can poke their county if it happens.
It is probably a nearby site upset that they are not getting the business and complaining to the council.
If you can send a message to them confirming you support and how long you have been going there, if you have of course.
It is one of my favourite places to stop on the way up and down the country, right in the middle and I intend to keep on doing so if possible.

, but no more info there. However, a great resource it would be a big shame to lose. Janie

Enail sent. I used to go there years ago when it was just an honesty box, introduced by @bobandjanie.
Its a great place to camp. No frills and cost effective.
I hope they don't close it down.
There's no real reason to!

Just seen this, and I’ve sent my support. Personally we’d be gutted, we go nearly every weekend.

I’ve sent my support too. I love it there and there are so few campsites like it.

Very sad... what is the reason? It has been on our to-do list to stay there for ages, as it sounds so perfect and we like the cycle-path circuit of Rutland Water.

Surprising they don't give the reasons why the council wants to close them.
Presumably it will involve refusal to renew their site licence and the council should probably have to give reasons for that.
Building a case against specific reasons should carry more weight than just expressions of support.

If it were why should that make a difference? It would be like Asda complaining against a corner shop. No grounds at all just because two legitimate businesses have different models.

I have sent an e mail in support of the site. I was one of the femal solos that benefitted from the inaugural meet we had there and loved the relaxed spacious environment - hope the council have a re think.

I’ve sent email & hubby will too.

I agree with the above, it is a lovely unique area, Have sent an e mail.

Beautiful site, they probably have it earmarked for housing :( seems to be what happens to any that get shut down.

Pulled on there yesterday only to be met with the bad news from Maddie. Signed a petition in the office onsite. We’ve been staying there since 2008 when there was an honesty box on the barn door where you paid and a one armed Scotsman used to cut the grass.

That's just sad news we have had some lovely holidays there..
e mail sent

I've been staying there for so long I can remember when the Scotsman had two arms ......... and if you slipped him a couple of quid he's put it in the honesty box for you.

Then the war started, "the war to end all wars."
Who named it that?

Supportive email sent, it'll do little good but hey-ho, it's off to work we g..... ang on I'm retired.

There is an advert for staff but I wonder if the site pays its way in terms of revenue covering costs? Councils are all strapped for cash and cannot afford loss making enterprises. Just a thought. I assume its council owned.

No it is privately owned by Lakeland Estates and they had trouble with the council for a long time and could not get power on site for some reason as well. It is a national motorhome asset, and most people have been there at some time or other.

Thanks for that. We are going up that way in May so will try and stay if we can.

Why have they had trouble for a long time? What sort of trouble?

I would question if it’s the council or Lakeland Estates that want it closed.

:( Lovely site and people ..e mail on its way. Met lovely female friends there for first time. Isn't there a C&CC site there too?

Have they said anything?

I daresay that Lakeland wanted to develop the site next to Rutland water and the council wanted to preserve the peace and quiet.

We went when the honesty box was on the barn, and have spent many nights there over the years. (y)
Will be very sad if it's closed, I remember Arthur saying they wanted toilets and showers maybe they pushed too hard. :D Bob and Janie.

Local pressure from nearby sites, I feel that have te ear of officialdom. dib, dib, dob, dob,??????
Whatever I would be most pieved, should it close.

Perhaps the licence came with conditions that Lakeland have failed to deal with and so the council are going to shut them down for failure to honour the conditions?

Why should that be a factor?

B&Q compete with Wickes and Asda with Tesco. We wouldn't expect councils to step in to favour one of those or the other would we?
Why should it be any different because it is caravan/camping sites that are the businesses competing?

Is @Abacist on the right track perhaps?

Have sent email to show support. I have only been once but was hoping to return soon... :(
