I'm a newbie
I'm wondering whether I can replace fluorescent T5 bulbs in Lumo fittings with LED versions and if so whether there's a significant benefit in doing so given the high cost of LED versions.
Anybody looked into this and discounted it and why or why anyone went ahead with it and what percentage improvement it gives on power drain on the battery?

I have replaced all of our fluorescent or irredescent bulbs (lamps?) with led versions and the quality of light is much better.
Most of the fittings took the led replacement easily, but I did replace 2 fluorescent fittings to ones with integral led,s as a complete unit and they only cost about £12 each and wired directly into the existing wiring.
I also have 2 fittings which use a 12v car bayonet fitting type stop bulb, and tried to replace these bulbs with an equivalent led version, but they just did not work at all, so went back to the car bulb.
Reason for trying to replace these bulbs was that they get hot and use a lot of juice.
I have noticed quite a difference in 12v usage with led’s and when I then switch on the non led’s, you can notice how much juice they alone use.
Definitely a project worth doing in my opinion, and our van is a similar aged model from 2000.

just gut the fitting, and use some LED strips inside or LED panels. better light with a fraction of the power used

Ours aren't t5 but after I replaced our fluorescent type bulbs with LED strips they now use about a 1/3 of the power.

Never thought of stripping gibbing s out of our strip lights , each has 2 t5 flourescent lamps. I’ll investigate at weekend.

I swapped mine for stick on LED, removed all stuff in first phot, also I originally fitted 2 strips of LED as shown but it was too much so removed one and used it elsewher.

Fluorescent fitting contain a crude inverter to up the 12v supply to 230v to run the light.
Very power hungry.
So even if I replace the bulbs with LEDs will the old Lumo fitting still just eat up the same amount of power anyway?

if you just fit the LED version that takes 240v yes, it will still take a lot more power than converting fully to LED.
