I’ve dug around a few threads but can’t find an exact answer to my questions.

We have a bulkhead adapter and therefore we understand that all we need to do is screw an adapter onto the LPG bottle and connect the pig tail.

What we don’t understand is, and so these are our questions:

Do different brands, i.e Calor Gas / Flo Gas for example have different adapters or are they generic?
If yes which adapter(s) would we need?

If travelling in Europe and we need to purchase a local bottle is it likely to need its own specific adapter and furthermore will we need a different pigtail?

Apologies in advance for the duplication this post may of caused. Many thanks

If you have a bulkhead regulator then you swap the pigtail (flex pipe) from regulator to bottle top depending on what bottle you are fitting. There are several different types, and they are different in different countries if you travel around. This is part of the reason many of us go to refillable.

You don’t need an adapter and a pigtail, you just swap the pigtail, or sometimes you can get an adapter that goes in the end of the pigtail, so not swap the pigtail.

In Europe you will need different connectors for different countries if travelling a lot over there well worth installing a refillable cylinder kit such as Gasit, Gaslow or Allugas😊 as you can fill at lots of fuel stations from their LPG pumps😊

Thanks. However I need to understand are there different “adapters“ for different brands of gas, I.e Calor Gas or Flo Gas for example.

Im planning on fitting an underslung tank once/if I get my van back.

Thanks. its understanding what type of adapters I need to screw into the top of the bottle that will enable me to secure the pigtail. Will I need one, two or three adapters for the UK for exampl. I think I understand correctly that the screw fitting between the adapter and pigtail is generic.

Pigtails can have differing fittings on both ends depending on country you are in🤔

If the pigtail has different fittings on both ends wouldn’t that mean it won’t fit on your bulkhead regulator?

More importantly will I need different adapters for UK branded gas bottles, I.e Calor or Fl Gas. By adapters I’m talking about the brass component that screws into the top of the bottle that the pigtail connects to?

If you check out the gaslow site there are pictures of the different adaptors, regulators etc for various countries which will give you some idea of how complex it can be.plus if you buy a local bottle you will need their adaptor and a suitable pigtail to your regulator plus you will need to store the empty bottle.so if you went to France, and then to Spain you could end up with 3 bottles with different hoses
Best to look at refillable IMO .

I agree 100% with jimbo.
Even in the uk there are 5 or 6 different gas suppliers each with their own style regulators/ conectors
And at circa £30 deposit on each cyinder you buy ( they dont take each others cylinders in exchange) you would need a trailer for you empties and you will end up with a bigger investment in cylinders and gas fittings than in your MoHo

Sorted, now I understand. Just been to Gas supply shop and got the answer. So as you all know the LPG bottles already come with an adapter, I wasn’t aware of this hence my questio. The reason I was confused was down to only ever using Campingaz which I always had to screw an adapter into before use. Many thanks

You tend to commit to one supplier because they don't (usually) exchange others' cylinders when you want a re-fill.
As you have found, the suppliers can choose one of many different connection systems, although most UK Propane suppliers use the same one. If you keep buying alternatives, though, you'll collect an ungainly array of 'spare' bottles.
