im a newbie
Hi all, we are new to the campervan/motorhone world....after a couple of years of looking pondering false starts we are seriously looking at buying a new IVECO daily LWB extra high top to convert. The build itself is not bothering me having a background in kitchen and shower/bathroom fitting and a retired upholsterer father...So a great set of skills to tap into...but I don't see many new daily's converted into a camper-van...is there any reason for this?
We've done a detailed spread sheet of all the materials plus weights of items we will be carrying (including one passenger and stored water etc) and come in just under the payload of 1220kg.
Any thoughts welocme.
Cheers

Iveco actually do a Motorhome,

I drive one for work, and am on 6or7th, the newer ones are much better, my last 2 went around the clock a few times and all with only 1 breakdown.

My MH is based on a 316 Sprinter, which is great but they cost considerably more money, what I don’t like about it is the turning circle, it’s like the QE2 com paired to the Iveco

Do you have a link to the IVECO motorhome?

We did exactly that. Ordered a new van specked with 3L 170bhp and 8 speed fluid auto then had it converted to our design. The L3 (mid height) height should be fine unless you are very tall or you would need a ladder to reach the top cupboards. Don't believe the stats in the brochure ours was actually heavier and supposed to be 5.95m long but is actually 6.1. When ordering there are a massive amount of options to choose, (they like to charge for everything) a lot of which you will not need or have heard off. There are also around 250 different colours to choose from at different prices. Don't forget if you want single seats order the version as the drivers seat, we made an expensive mistake in ordering a standard single which turns out doesn't have a seat slider so couldn't fit a swivel. Also order without a bulkhead which costs more than with one. Our biggest concern with it apart from build quality which is typical of the Fiat group is the ride quality which is poor for a 21st century vehicle although ours is twin wheel for traction. They are not built like a conventional van, they are essentially a truck chassis with a van body bolted on to them.

Did you have the option of rear air suspension from the factory, you may also be able to fit VB semi air to the front but not sure with it being a van rather than a chassis cab, tyre pressures make a big difference but I am sure you know that.

Could have had factory air on the back at I think £2k+ but didn't think it would be necessary and added weight. Can't put air on the front of the transverse spring set up but could have ordered with torsion bar suspension again at extra cost and weight. You are correct tyre pressure makes a huge difference and run the minimum for each axle loading.

We were looking at a van already at the dealers so not ordered to a particular spec. we would have to remove the bulk head and buy a new passenger swivel seat. Has air-con, cruise, single rear axel, leather flat bottom steering wheel..wooohooo !!!! etc etc 27k plus vat.

I didn't realise that torsion bars were an option, I have driven an A class motorhome on the 50C chassis with torsion bars and the front ride was very good.

I've spoken to the sales guy we use and seems they stopped doing the Motor Homes a while back, They do sell a number of the 6.5t vans that get converted.

The air suspension is very good
