Looking for inspiration

I'm presently on Lake Orta and plan to take the Simplon Pass over the Alps, but I need a bit of inspiration for a route to Calais please.
I've got about 9 days and need the vet check for pet passport.

Toll or non toll preferred?

Prefer non toll but don't really mind, will be paying for the Swiss thing at the border.

@stichensfluff I think most of the French routes are non toll in that area aren't they ?
Probably go into Luxembourg for diesel etc
Just wondered if anyone had tips for interesting town's / places on route ?

Yes they are. Metz if not tooooo far out of your way

Yes Metz is often mentioned here, so will factor that in.
Any suggestions for Aires ?

There is an Aire in Metz right outside of their municipal campsite. Easy distance to the centre.
