Just looked at the website and to drive into Crystal Palace club site will cost me £100 per day! Really? I was expecting about £20 max. I'm guessing i only need to pay for 2 days (there and back)?

We used Abbey Wood instead, further to travel (for us) but no emission charges (yet)

Are you sure we love going to Abbey wood but our euro 5 as I understand is non compliant!

Abbey Wood is definitely in the LEZ.

Not sure if it’s in the ULEZ though/

London has superb public transport.
Busses, tube, train, DLR, clipper boats, boris bicycles, rickshaws, Black cabs, Ubers, and even cable car.
All payable by card (Only the Black Cabs will still take cash, if pushed)

Find a site, near a railway station, beyond the M25, there are many.
Simply commute into the centre of London, just like the millions that work there, but live outside.

(Be aware there are dozens of central London stations, so find one that suits what you want to do in the centre of the city, which remember is about 5x5 miles across, so walking from say Harrods to St Paul's is not realistic )

Crystal Palace is outside the ULEZ. Plotting a route there maybe a challenge depending on your start point.

you only pay ULEZ on the days you move the van in the area.

It would only take an hour to walk between the two - it’s only about 3 miles……unless you sightsee on the way, of course!;)

And a nice walk at that

The CCC site at Chertsey is outside the LEZs even though it is just inside the M25. It is located on the west side of London and not far from the M3 so ideal coming from the direction of Southampton.

A nice site too with some nice river walks and a few nice ( though a bit pricey) pubs in easy walking distance.

Why not?
Yes, cram yourself onto crowded, overpriced, probably delayed, sealed petri dishes and contract a go of Covid.
One of the principal plus points of motorhoming is that it reduces your exposure to infection.

For those not familiar with the area, there are two London LEZs. The ULEZ, which is roughly the shape of the North/South Circular ring road and the LEZ which is roughly the shape of the M25. Both require diesels to be Euro 6. ULEZ affects vehicles of any sort and is relatively cheap. LEZ only affects large >3500kg vehicles and is prohibitively expensive.

Put your registration into the gov ULEZ website and see if you are compliant. Our vehicle (4.8 tons) is fully compliant in all clean air cities, don’t ask me why but it is.

I love London and once Claire is back living there I will no doubt visit more often. Had Covid not happened we would have continued to visit as one of our sons lives there. Sometimes we used to stay at the Crystal Palace site if we were staying a week but sometimes we stay in Hotels.

Perhaps Nick and I are strange but we don’t feel that just because we have a motorhome those are the only sort of holidays we are allowed to have. We love our motorhome but sometimes we go to the theatre and stay in hotels. We even travel abroad and stay in Hotels. We like city breaks at home and abroad and it used to be terribly easy to whizz up to Bristol and fly off for for a few days or a week.

We shouldn’t feel the need to criticise others choices , some just like different things. I know some choices are limited by finances of course but that’s always the case.

I do agree, really. I was wedging tongue firmly in cheek.

We are looking at the feasibility of doing a narrowboat again next year, but with two disabled teenagers, we don't fly and don't do hotels. Moho was the ideal choice for us.

Travel outside of the rush hours is also possible .......

Sorry, got the two confused, all I know is we didn’t have to pay anything going to Abbey Wood on a 2007 Fiat Ducato base vehicle

We’ve stayed at C Palace sept 2020 and sept 21. We could not get an answer from the camp site or on the London travel site on the net. The woman in the next van rang them and we were told pay nothing as we are classed as leisure vehicles. Both vans were 10 year old ducato based. 3.5 T.
Never had a request for payment.

Best option is to not go to London and put more of your hard earned cash into the pocket of the man who created these taxes.
Johnson has moved on, in case you haven’t noticed 🙄

Maybe one should pint out that to ge to the ULEZ one has to transit the LEZ so while the charge for the ULEZ (£12.50?) is less expensive it is on top of the charge for the LEZ to get to the inner zone.

I like the Manchester approach that any vehicle over 20 years is exempt, but I have not seen an answer tp my question about from what date the 20 years is counted: date of engine, date of base vehicle manufacture or date of registration?
