Hi, I’m new to this group but hoping someone can advise, been on campsite for 2 days on EHU & moved to a pub stop over but soon as I put heating on gas all lights went out the leisure battery is showing 7.5. This is our 1st Motorhome & 2nd time away, our 1st outing 12volt control panel lost all power so that has been repaired by Sargent recently.

Hi and welcome, do you have more information?

What Motorhome and year? Was the battery working before? Have you checked all fuses?

If you start the engine, does the voltage go up?

How old is the battery?

It does sound like the battery has had it.

Hi, sorry about not enough info, it’s an Autotrail 2016battery is probably same age as van 5-6 yr old, no not checked fuses yet but I’ll try them in morning with a bit daylight! I’ll try start up then. Thank you

If it’s been flat before and is 6 years old, it’s probably toast!

It must be connected as you are getting voltage readings so the fuses are probably okay. If everything is working on hookup but dies without, it normally means the battery is gone. Probably hastened by the control panel allowing it to go flat.

If you are stuck, Halfords own brand leisure batteries are a respected make. I had to get one once on holiday when mine died.

Oh, just to add, if you can run the engine for a short time, you might be able to get a tank of hot water and heating to warm the van enough to sleep. That is, if the pub can’t provide you with hookup.

When you were on EHU that would have kept everything working as it should , via the PSU , even with a duff battery , so it seems that the battery may need replacing , but also check for a poor connections at the leisure battery.

with the helpful advice from all members I think I’m going to have a look at a new battery, do I just buy similar to what is on van now Banner 110amp or look for something better. ??

Any decent make will do as long as it fits. I would avoid AGM as they don’t last long with leisure use.

Avoid cheap no names, they are usually just rebranded car batteries.

Yuasa, Exide, Lucas, there are lots out there. Look at paying around £110+.

I don’t know of another forum where help and goods are offered like they are on here.
Respect, Tombola.
It’s nice to feel part of a helping community in these crazy times.

I went for Exide Gel 80ah, mainly for their longevity and deeper discharge capability without damage. They're about £160 at Tayna.

When you say it's 'showing 7.5V' is that on a display panel, or a voltage reading from the battery terminals? If the main leisure battery fuse has blown, the display panel may display some random voltage like 7.5V, and the battery might be perfectly OK. So you need to take a multimeter reading from the leisure battery terminals to be sure the battery is no good.
