I do not post the co-ordinates of my (private) little orchard paradise (aka Quinta Majay) on an open forum because I only want to invite people I feel I know, and who I feel would enjoy the place.

Can you imagine what I would be like if I returned back from my winter sun break in the south, and found Man U*d and Scousepool supporters parked up there?

PS. Mr Lenny HB is welcome to visit anytime... (y)

I'm new!
We'll be heading down through France and Spain then Portugal is on the list of places to visit. It's our first adventure in a motorhome. We plan on wild camping and staying at sites, but certainly want to get away from the crowds. Sharing a car park with the masses is not our idea of fun! I can't say we're overly interested in visiting the Algarve, let's hope some of the more rural / northern parts of Portugal are less crowded. Will keep you posted either way!

Don't let your views of off-site motorhoming be tainted by holiday visitors to the Algarve. ;)

(Far more masses crammed together on official sites than off-site.)

I'll take the first option most of the time, the second for the odd night.
Personally, socialising and being able to walk to a bar or restaurant is important to me rather than being stuck out in the wilds with no company :party2::cheers:

Now... that IS a tricky one... ;)

Do you know who Gabriel Jesus is?

Are you familiar with the latest Metallica album?

Did you attend any of the talks Mr Wedgie Benn gave at Glastonbury?

Have you ever watched a street performer and then walked away without putting anything in his hat?

Are you a friend of either Mariella Frosthrup, Joanna Lumley or Hailey Mills?

Can you work a spade, axe, chainsaw or petrol strimmer?

Are you touring this way with a mini-digger on a trailer behind your motorhome?

Do you know who Gabriel Jesus is?
Wasn't he a character in one of the US TV cop shows? :)

Are you familiar with the latest Metallica album?
Is it magnetic? :D2

I'm not a hippo so don't lake wadding in mud. :X3:

Er ... yes a very, very, very crap one who obviously didn't put much thought into the fact that you have to be able to perform something to get money!

Are you a friend of either Mariella Frosthrup, Joanna Lumley or Hailey Mills?
No ... but I've met Bill Oddie! :D2

Can you work a spade, axe, chainsaw or petrol strimmer?
You need to ask???? That's my idea of fun ... bring it on!!!!! :sneaky:

Are you touring this way with a mini-digger on a trailer behind your motorhome?
I've got 3 mini diggers but they aren't on a trailer ... they're called Romy, Lily and Tazzy and are very good at the job and work for biscuits!

Looks very peaceful(y)
If you stay more than a couple of nights, what do people do with the toilet cassette?

I don't have a cassette... I have a proper loo... I only empty every 10 to 12 weeks.

I have stayed on that exact spot also, for one night, and very nice it is too:)

Nice??

And another place where you don't pay

This was very nice for one night but it looked like some were abusing the locality by staying put.

There is a difference:)

I really dont see the point of parking on some rough piece of ground to save a few bob. I have no problem with people using aires en route but there
are lots of tight fisted motorhomers out there (surrogate Itinerants) giving us all a bad name when for a few euros you can stay on an ACSI site and enjoy it properly.
How can this attitude help the local communities ?
No wonder the authorities are cracking down on it.
Phil
How dare you.. What you choose as your type of motorhoming is up to you . If I or anyone else wants to save money then that's up to us and not you. Tight fisted or living within means. Next it will be oh if you can't afford site fees then don't motorhome.

I hope I'm never parked up next to you one day.

Borrow your avatars spade
That's what I was alluding to(y):D

Unlike JJ, most of the 'Free loaders' 'Wild Campers' Travellers! Call them what you will.
Won't have a nice big pooh tank in their vans. So if they are not moving on after a few days, they will need to dispose of their excrement in the local area.

So people will be digging pooh holes everywhere. Which is not great:(

Just because there are no facilities that does not mean that Wild Campers just dump stuff indiscriminately, most are passionate about the environment they are in as they want to stay there. Sometimes holes are dug, but rarely in my experience, but even then, dug properly and with a bit of thought, there is no harm in doing so. Plenty of wild campers have at least 1 other cassette, I've met loads who have three. And if they are away in a nice place with no facilities they are experts at getting the longest possible time away before they need to dump their tanks. The same with water supply, they are frugal and won't waste a drop, because when they are out that means a move has to happen. Because we've always wild camped with a family it was always water or fresh bread that did for us first, so every three days or so when we ran out we'd have to find somewhere to dump, fill up and shop.

I'm sure plenty when they passed my crew looked down their noses and assumed we were just dumping in the sea, or lake or long grass... On the contrary, like many other wild campers you very often leave a place cleaner than you found it.

The problem is, like most things in life they will be ruined by human beings. You say most are passionate.
Most people pay their taxes, pick up litter, don't fly tip, pick up after their dogs. You know where I'm going(y)
There are others who don't play by the rules, who eventually ruin it for those that do. That's why we don't have aire's in this country. if we did, people would rip the arse out of it.

Everywhere you go in this country there are barriers, or earth mounds that the tax payer has paid to stop those who think they have a right to park and abuse the land.

If you are a full timer, what do you do with your rubbish, recycle it yourself? do you pay for the local police, fire service, all the other services that the council tax payers are paying for.

It's fantastic to be free to go where you want or park where you want and have a wonderful life on the road. But the bottom line. Someone else is paying for it.;)

Please, please don't worry (Mr, Mrs, Ms) jessthedog...

...with all the taxes I have paid (and am paying) and all the cash investments I have made and all the money I spend in Portugal, I don't think they mind me using the bins every now and again. (y)

I envy what you do and good luck to you, but their is a price to pay. And not everyone is the same as you.(y)
