I am trying to book a site in the Lake District for September. The CCC site just seems to tell you the dates you want aren't available but doesn't say which ones are. I am flexible and this would be useful.
I have not been before and will be there for photography. I fancy the Keswick site but cannot seem to book it. It seems the Kendal site is just a couple of minutes walk away. Does anyone have experience of these sites?

We are on our way to castlerigg, farm campsite only 30 min walk into keswick but bus stop outside site. Castlerigg hall campsite next door also, check them out.

Careful with the CCC Keswick site if you are going for photography. WhenI was last there, the barriers are closed overnight and don’t open until (I think) 7am. If you are off to photograph Sunrise this may limit you.

Been to both sites.

keswick is a great site, there are 2 CCC sites in the town which are close to each other .Keswick and Derwent Water.

The sites are prone to flood* especially by the waters edge. Nice and close to town and all its facilities.

kendal however is a good 30+ miles from Keswick…The Kendal site is also very nice, a fairly easy walk into Kendal maybe 30 mins on foot.

given the choice I’d go for Keswick or Derwentwater sites, scenery to me is better than Kendal and Keswick as a town is more appealing than Kendal.

Enjoy your trip

* as a child we went there in a tent. Middle of the night we had water literally flowing through the tent. Dad and I sheltered for the night on the floor of the gents, and my sister and mum similarly sheltered in the ladies. Seem to remember there were quite a lot of folk doing the same!

For booking at the Keswick main site I always phone the wardens on site, their phone number is at the bottom of the site description. They can tell you availability, they are very friendly and helpful.

Try the new ccc site Braithwaite Village . 30 minute walk into Keswick off road.
Kendal site is outside if Kendal and nowhere near Keswick.
Castlerigg hall nice but a good walk into town we used to walk in and taxi back.

Thanks everyone for their replies. Phil89a, good point about the barriers. I may need to look at some CL/CS sites.

When I go up for photography the site I would use is the CAMC site at Borrowdale - https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-sites/england/lake-district/cumbria/borrowdale-club-campsite/

Excellent location to get up to the fells and the woodlands around Borrowdale are great for in Autumn. All accessible on foot. Access to Keswick is a short 6 mile walk around Derwentwater or jump on the boat 😀

If you can’t get into Keswick which is a great site and town there are Plenty sites around Ullswater/pooley Bridge.

Not many CL/CSs available I found. Have you looked at National Trust camp sites, a few take vans.
