Good afternoon funsters, I have recently become the owner of an Adria van as described in the title and I might add that Mrs VP and I are very pleased with it so far. One thing is bugging us though and that is the absence of the original bunk ladder which, as I understand it, has a dual purpose. It provides access to the drop down bed as you would expect but it also serves an extension to the ladder fixed to the back of the van allowing access to the roof. The ladder fixed to the back starts about 1.5 metres above ground level and is not accessible without the bunk ladder extension, which clips onto some hinged clips at the bottom of the fixed ladder.

I have spoken to the dealer who supplied the van (not an Adria dealer) and they're happy to supply a bunk ladder but they haven't got a clue about the dual purpose of the original ladder and merely want to give me a standard aluminium bunk ladder cut down to the correct length. I called Brownhills in Newark who supplied the van from new and a very helpful chap in their parts department informed me that the price on the system for the original ladder is £767 but that they are no longer available. An alternative is listed but in his view that is just a bog standard bunk ladder which wouldn't be capable of being clipped onto the rear ladder.

So I'm going to have to accept the dealer's offer of a bog standard ladder I suppose but will continue to seek out an original - or a 2nd ladder to use outside.

My question to fellow funsters is: Does anyone else have an Adria coachbuilt van with this ladder on the back plus the extension and could you possibly post a picture of the top end of the bunk ladder so that I can perhaps seek out the fixings/clip that would enable me to use it? Many thanks.

Have you contacted Adria direct? I have found them very helpful in the past.

Thank you Puddleduck, I haven't done that so I'll try them tomorrow.

Never used the thing as there is not much on the roof to do and I just give my son a leg up when needed. No idea where it is but it never looked that elegant when used at the rear and our offspring were big enough to clamber up to the bed. So like the carpets stored until we sell.
It will be in as good as new condition but I could offer it to you with Fun discount for £765.
I will look it out next week if no one else has found one to hand.

I will send photos of ours when I drag my lazy arse out of bed after deciding where to travel to for tonight's stopover .... Ours is 670slt 2018 but I assume it will be the same.

That's a very kind offer Camdoon, thank you but I'll have to give you the same answer that I gave to the chap from Brownhills when he told me the price before he said it was no longer available. I won't actually repeat it in polite company but I'm sure you can imagine what it might have been. If you do happen to stumble across it though, a photo would very much appreciated 👍 😊.

Cheers Mister B, that would be great.

The second photo is where it fits into the bed, though I suspect you already know that ...

Thank you Mister B this is very helpful. I actually don't recognise where it fits onto the bed, on my van as far as I can tell it hooks over the top of the frame of the bed on the inside of which there is a metal bracket which presumably holds it in place somehow. But I will try and source those ends plugged into the top of your ladder, I might be able to afford those.

There are a few funsters who do 3d printing, I'm sure they could produce something for you, tailor made to fit whatever ladder you can source.

Thank you, I wasn't aware of that.

You're a hard negotiator - I could knock another 50p off :)

We also have a 2019 670 but it’s s DC. Having said that the ladders are the same, as seen in MisterB’s image. On our previous Adria a 2016 670SL I could never get the ladder to fit securely onto the clips on the bottom of the rear ladder. Incidentally, part of the clips have been removed on the current MH (see attached image) I must admit I haven’t tried the ladder to see if it fits, if it stops raining I give it a go.

Interesting, thank you.

We have a Matrix with the ladder but haven’t noticed any particular part where it clips into the drop down bed. We just hook ours over the lip on the edge. Crazy price for the proper Adria one. There’s nothing special about it. I’d get what you can and get a couple of Velcro straps to secure it to the ladder on the rear wall.

That price is crazy as you say IRHP, I suppose it helps to explain why motorhomes are so blooming expensive. I'll probably never use it to climb up the back of the van anyway as I don't fancy the strain my 15 stone would put on it. I may send one of the grandkids up there once they've finished sweeping the chimney.

Interesting, thank you.
Attached to the rear the ladder is flaky.
The back bumper ensures it is not at an angle you would want to clamber up.
Mine appears to have gone awol as well.

Thanks, but no. That's the same as the one we have and it doesn't attach to the rear external ladder.

At the price quoted I would carry a folding step ladder instead.

The ladder to get to our roof folds up and has retaining clips for when it's not in use so is completely different to yours.

Apologies for taking so long to respond with the images blow.

Ignore the small bits of green foam attached to the hooks at the top, these are purely to protect the fabric when hooked into the edge of the bed.

As you can see, the ladder simply hooks into the 2 brackets attached to the fixed ladder on the rear. These 2 brackets are deliberately loose to enable them to be slid upwards to aid hooking the bottom section if on uneven ground.

As I mentioned in my original response there was a small sprung clip fitted too the clip on the fixed section on the rear (see image of our old van). I now realise they clip over the bottom section to prevent it coming adrift when in use.

Hope the above and images help you. If you need anything further, just shout.

Hi Derry, thanks very much for the photos and please accept my apologies for not replying sooner - we were away with friends for a long weekend so the smartphone and my eyes have been enjoying a much needed period of downtime and I've only just seen your post.
The images show me exactly what I'm missing and I think that I can probably work out the dimensions for some 3D printed clips from the ladder attached to my van. The clips are in place but I'm not that I would have been able to work out what they were for, so thanks again you've been very helpful and it's much appreciated.

That’s absolutely fine, that’s what we all here to do to help each other out if we can.
I’ll add the Dims from top of the ladder tomorrow, i.e the maximum external width and internal of the plastic hooks

Vintage Potter

As promised. See attached images of ladder edited with Dims. Excuse my unsteady hand when editing the images. Also included an image (taken from above, showing where the ladder fits onto the edge of the bed.

Ladder Dimensions: -
Max width to outside of hooks is: 29.3cm
Min width to inside of hooks is: 23.5cm
Length of ladder not including hooks is: 148cm

Hope all this is of assistance, and you're successful in finding a suitable and less expensive solution than that of the extortionate dealer price.

PS. Have you seen the new Matrix based on the Merc chassis, absolutely gorgeous, I haven't seen any prices yet, but expect it to be well north of £100k. That rules me out for a couple of years until they start appearing on the pre-used circuit.

Adria UK HQ will probably just refer you to your nearest dealer as they don't generally take enquiries direct from general public. They simply haven't got the staff to do that.
You could join our Adria Owners Club for £15 pa http://www.clubadria.co.uk/ we have a members items for sale/wanted section.
We also have a members Facebook page where you could put out a request.
Last but not least we will be on the Adria stand at the NEC for the whole show later this month and you could ask one of us there.
Hope that helps.

I've boarded up my ladder to repel channel port boarders and others accessing the roof. I use a ladder/platform. My ladder extension is stored at home. Safety first!

Thank you. I don't do Facebook but I'll certainly join the Adria owners club and I'll be at the NEC on the Tuesday. Will seek you out.

I'll be there on Wednesday but other club members will be on the stand. Dave Wharmby is the Chairman and he'll be there.

Many thanks Derry, perfectly readable and very helpful.

I'll be checking out the new Adrias at the NEC in a couple of weeks time. Not that I can afford one, possibly be able to afford a 2023 model in 2027 when I've finished paying for this one and if I'm still breathing.🤞

Gotcha, thanks.
