It depends how close to the DD date you SORN, eg if you do it today and your next DD is 1st October it will still be taken as it's too late to cancel it (can take up to 10 days), however you'll get a refund (can't remember if it's by cheque or back into your bank account. What you shouldn't do is cancel the DD as that can cause the system to go into meltdown then you have to talk to a DVLA numpty!
takes 5 mins to retax a van online if you dont think your going to use it its got to be worth the 2mins to sorn itI have never SORNED at all, even during covid. I like it to be ready to go if the opportunity arises even if it's unlikely.
Yep and if not being used I like to take it for a drive every few weeks to keep everything in running order. The worse thing you can do to a van is to leave it sitting around.I have never SORNED at all, even during covid. I like it to be ready to go if the opportunity arises even if it's unlikely.
Perhaps we should call you 'ever prepared'!I have never SORNED at all, even during covid. I like it to be ready to go if the opportunity arises even if it's unlikely.

Nothing to stop you driving it at the end of the month then SORNing it and not using it for a month then re-taxing it at the beginning of the next month (ie the third one) and driving it at the beginning and end, then SORNing it again ... would still fit in with your few week's of tootling.Yep and if not being used I like to take it for a drive every few weeks to keep everything in running order.
