Living in France we had no thoughts to spend much time in the UK this summer but urgent family commitments may change that!

Mum who is 89 lost her partner during lockdown and wasn't able to see him really for the last few weeks of his life. (Cancer not virus) Plans were well in hand for her to come to us for a months holiday from mid August to give her a break before the onset of autumn and winter when she believes after listening to the news that she'll be back in lockdown/isolation for 6 months or so.
So this morning the phone call to say she felt ill yesterday and she had to go and spend the night with my sister. Though now feeling better her main concern is what would happen if she falls ill in France, she would be in a strange hospital, no English, no visitors..

So plan B, we pack the MH, worm the dogs and go to the Uk in mid August for a few weeks or so and bring mum back with us if she wishes. It wouldn't work if we tried to stay with her or nearby all the time so we would visit, tour around for a week or so and return etc. Looking at areas like Northumbria, Scottish Lowlands, North Yorkshire Moors etc away from the crowds.

Any recent experiences or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Wendy

Couldn’t confirm for that area specifically but based on the trips we have been on so far and attempts to book short notice breaks I would say very busy, we were on a large (241 pitches) CAMC site over the weekend and it was full and late arrivals on the Saturday were struggling to find the last few empty pitches.

No knowledge of campsites elsewhere but we were away last weekend and stayed at Brecon, a popular C&MC site. It was probably at about 90% with only a few empty pitches. We then extended our stay into Tuesday and after the weekend it was busy but probably at about 60-70% occupancy. Spoke to a warden and he said that they had been busy post lockdown but there were vacancies.
A friend was on a nearby CL @ £7pn. He booked short notice and it was quiet.

We have been out these last few weeks to C &MC sites in Lakes and Cotswolds they were all very busy, the ones without facilities were easier to get on hope you find somewhere

Yesterday I tried 4 CAMC sites in N. Yorks but all full throughout August (and most of Sept) except for three or four isolated (i.e. non-consecutive) nights. You might be luckier with CLs or non 'Club' sites.
First time for 15 years that I've considered holidaying with the m/h in U.K. so not used to the faff of having to book ahead so I'll go abroad again.
This website is quite good:

Bury (Burr Country Park) CMC was less than half full last two nights.

We are trying to book some nights on C&MC sites in September and have been watching and waiting for movement to free up some nights that we need. I get the impression that some sites are more booked up in September, than they are in August. This may be due to the higher prices in the school holidays and the older generations looking for pitches in September after the school holidays end

I see there are a lot of campers who frequent CMC sites on here, I'm not sure having lived in France for close on 20 years whether we could cope with the rules and regulations, certainly the dogs couldn't. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Just booked CMC Leek for next week. We’re not that bothered where we go so that makes things easier.

Just booked the last space on a small site in Cornwall - in 3 weeks time !

The farmer I picked up from yesterday had a small cl and he said that they was fully booked till the end of September, never known it before.

Sites in Dumfries and Galloway are very busy, not just club sites.

There's loads of free pitches on our site in Benidorm 👍 only €16 a night too ☀️☀️☀️🌝

I would guess the majority of sites in "Scottish Lowlands" are nigh on fully booked through to early October.
I know you're not interested in C&MC for you own reasons but to get a flavour of availability you could check this on their website (it's very easy) however I was in at Strathclyde Country Park site this morning and it's the bustiest I've every seen it (odd spaces left). New England Bay was full with up to 70 changeovers a day a couple of weeks back.

A little recent experience suggests that campsite with operational facilities are busy but those without or simply not in use for whatever reason are less so. CL's and CS's could be a good bet.

Currently on the THS at Beadnell almost 200 units here almost twice usual number. Farmer kindly agreed use of a second field.
A huge effort has gone into incorporating all of the new rules and requirements and so far it seems to be working really well. Just need the weather to pick up!

It’s fine on a CMC site, you just need to keep your dog on a lead, use the dog walks and pick up.
We’re on a CL and it’s fully booked at present.

At Black Knowl. Campsite full but social distancing protocols in place. Come 6 in the evening the kids on the site having had their meal are having their hour of mayhem around the site. Not a problem but not quite sure why some parents are not that bothered about others on the site. Not meant to be miserable just an observation. Let’s hope they don’t have a problem when I practice my trumpet at 6 am!

Not if you've got a right hand hab door?

Not if you've got a right hand hab door?
If you’re asking, then I’ll tell you that’s not true. We’re on our third MH with the habitation door on the wrong side and it makes no difference to the welcome you receive on a CMC site.

God forbid you have a right hand hab door. This could justify immediate eviction. Rule number 12,987 page 1600.
Please don't encourage my phobia about the CMC, I've not been on one of their sites since 1988 and I've nearly recovered. ;) ;) .Though I've been on a site or two in France where the owner or manager was trained by the CMC, now that is a serious culture shock/clash.
