Had the clutch replaced last wednesday, taking it out of the yard, Noonish, i had some issue starting it.
Engine turning over but not kicking in
This morning had to try start her for about 8 minutes same story, in addition she caught twice but as soon as i let the clutch come up or put her in gear (2nd time) she died.

Third time I let her run for a minute before i put her in gear .

Now googling I end up with glow plugs (are they different than spark plugs , asked the noob) or main-clutch cylinder (never heard of that thing either) but the fact that the name contains "clutch" makes me wonder if they been a bit negligent with the clutch replacement?

"Clutch master cylinder" most likely, do you know if they replaced it? Are there glow plug lights on the dashboard?

A clutch should have no impact on the starting unless its in gear and you are trying to start and holding the pedal down and have clutch drag .
If the poor starting has come about due to it being colder when you went to start then I would be getting the glow plugs checked out for being burnt out or the controller not bringing them into use. HTSH :)

for your info glow plugs are like little heater rods , unlike spark plugs they are constant not intermittent , and only operate when engine (ambient) is cold ( mostly)

I would bet the earth lead to the gearbox has been left loose or is rotten. Easy to rule out using a jump lead from the battery negative to a cleaned area on the gearbox bell housing. If it starts easy with the lead attached have a good quality made up to suit. The OEM braided leads rot inside. They look good but often a good pull (or move it) and they fall apart

If it drives normally once warmed up I think it's unlikely to be the clutch. I would first give them a call and speak to them.

+ another one for earth lead. As you have just had the clutch done this is a possible contender due to work being done in that area.
I don't think it would be the clutch.

I had the same problem and it was one of the injectors was leaking back to the tank preventing pressure being built up in the manifold. A leak test on the injectors identified which one it was. I then ordered one and replaced it myself. Not a job for the faint hearted but easy enough. Total cost less than £150.

tacr2man Got up early for it today.... started her in neutral ... no issue
Going to get up early tomorrow to test her with the clutch down (Wish I had seen that post earlier
(PLease tell me that avatar is not your camper ..... I want it, nothing more suitable for getting off the beaten track)

She is booked in for a check tuesday ... will mention that lead

Used to be common on mini’s and Morris minors, a good indication was the choke cable used to get hot as the vehicle tried to earth through the choke cable.

It’s the handbrake cable on Defenders.

My friends just had a pretty expensive rebuild and respray of his Tr6 after an engine fire caused by a faulty earth lead.
