I am a Newbie
After much research, attending shows, visiting dealers, hesitating and some heartache along the way, I finally took the plunge yesterday and placed my order for a new MH.
A Bailey Alliance SE 66-2. Delivery due August / September.
Already I can hear the shouts, “ Is the man Mad ? Ordering a British build MH ? “
Well I can’t deny the “Mad” part of that question, only time will tell as to the wisdom of my choice.
And the deciding factor that made me finally place this order ? An offer by the dealer to throw in a FREE pack of toilet rolls !!! (If I’m really lucky there may be a free air freshener too.) How could I refuse ? 😉
Despite many many years of driving, I have never been one for tinkering with the mechanics of my vehicles. Always made sure they were well maintained, but by the professionals rather than me. My DIY skills are not a great deal better. So the first time anything should go wrong with the Bailey, I will be in deep Doo - Dah. 😉
Those toilet rolls may well be needed ! 😂
First port of call will be Cornish Farm and the fitting of a few extras, then it’s the open road and this Mad man will be amongst you all. Can’t wait !
You have been WARNED. 😂

Congrats on the purchase, but do we think the dealer has stockpiled their loo roll, or alternatively do they think that a couple of months is adequate time to get out and source some :) Meanwhile we look forward to a suitable toilet thread (they are a popular pastime on MHF) so you can learn how best to use them :)

So that's we're all the bog rolls went...
We should be ashamed of ourselfs blaming all those inconsiderate panicky loo roll hoarders However good deal that... buy one (rather expensive moho) and get one (bet it wasn't even Andrex) free..😎😎😎😎

Hello and welcome and congratulations on your new van .
Enjoy your trips when yo pick her up.

As long as the loo roll is accompanied by a years worth of toilet chemical then I suppose its not to be sniffed at! :roflmto:

Congratulations on the new van, don’t know much about their MHs but our Bailey caravan was decent quality.

Flog the rolls, they should cover at least half the cost of your new MH! :giggle:

Before you all take the proverbial michael!
These are not just stockpiled toilet rolls, these are the Thetford Aqua Soft, designed so no chaffing on bottoms at all! So soft it could be compared to virgin lambs wool. A toilet roll so refreshing its like its been dipped in Original Source shower gel Mint flavour!
Plus they are not old as it clearly says in exhibit B that they are new!

I bet it was izal toilet paper they gave you. Any other brand of m/home would give you andrex

I hate to risk taking this thread away from the subject of toilet rolls and puns relating thereto (although I am certainly willing to debate the wisdom of buying loo-roll designed for cassette/portable toilets which, in my view, is unnecessary, not to say a waste of hard earned cash), but what I want to comment on is the notion that you might be thought "mad" for buying a British built motorhome.

There's a lot of snobbery about buying European - and German in particular. Personally, I prefer the door and layout the UK way round (I only use my motorhome in the UK) and I like a full oven and grill, but I know this depends on what you want, or need, in your van and if mainly travelling in Europe I realize people eat out or have BBQs! I absolutely do not suggest people who buy foreign have got it wrong in any sense (I have had two European vans myself); I just find the snobbery around it - such that (as you rightly say) there are some people who will call you "mad" for buying British - a tad irritating. I accept that, as a generalisation build quality was better, in Germany especially, but I am not convinced that is true today and, even if it were, there's no call for elitism.

Having said that my last four cars have been German!! :blusher:

Sounds purific to me ! I have a very delicate rear end ! 😉
And sadly it has been a long time since I had any association with anything virgin ! 😉. 😯. 😂 😂 😂

Could not agree more. 👍

We have a 66-2 Advance, had it just over a year, over 5000 miles and would have been considerably more by now but for you know what. The only major problem we’ve had was with the French bit. The Peugeot at the front end needing a gearbox repair after sticking 4 th to 5th.
I’m sure you’ll love it. They drive really well, have all the same bits the more expensive German ones have and will go anywhere they can go too.

PS I know the van bit is made in Italy

Thanks RidersofRohan, I really appreciate your input.
Last year at the NEC I looked at so many MH, but kept returning to the
66-2. It really did appeal to me. I know I will be like a kid with a new toy when it arrives. 😉
I did not know the van bit was made in Italy.
French at the front end, Italy at the back, not so much British then ? 😯

I think he means the van bit, ie Fiat cab is made in Italy (although it could be a sub-factory in another country), the rear bit, ie habitation part, is made in the UK.

Yes sorry Yorkshirelad175, As Minxy Girl says, I meant the van bit as the cab etc. Peugeot Fiat and Citroen make the cab in a factory in Italy. Then Bailey build the body onto it in Bristol.
