2010?
Our new Benimar oven has the pull out plate that stops heat rising up to knobs, however this gets dangerously hot to the touch, if grandson touched it he would get a burn, is this correct or a manufactured fault?

They have been like that for years ,not saying they are any good just stop knobs melting !

it is the same on our cooker.

We pull the electric ring knob off our cooker nowadays as when I knocked it in passing and the electric ring came on.

The lid exploded and glass was thrown all over the van.

Luckily we were sitting outside drinking some of BreweryDave beer at the time and no one was hurt.

It went off like a hand grenade.

You would think they would put a cut-off on the lid.

Dont own a benimar but why does the heat come out of the front of the oven when in use rather than the vents at the top rear

The warning not to switch the cookers rings on is written in black on the smoked glass lid.

The electric hob was switched on and that caused the damage but yes as you can see the gas works with the lid down as well.

Here are a few photo's of the mess afterwards.

As I understand - not in the UK.
It does in the UK on ours it does any way! Soon has the lid comes down its off! I think you will find the one where the lid has exploded cannot now press the valve to shut off the gas hence being lit as in the photo

Yes. The glass lid hinges were still in the position that indicated the glass top was closed.
That's interesting ? Thought the hinge was needed to completely shut the micro switch off but needed the weight of the glass to make a closed signal to the valve?

I was having dinner at a friends house when mid meal there was an almighty bang in the kitchen. On entering, there was glass everywhere but the hob was OFF. The residual heat after cooking was enough, so don't be too quick to close the glass lid, shutoff switch or not

Gas should cut off.???
Hi.
I am SURE, we had a c/van some while ago that if the lid was NOT open fully, would not light. If Dave Howarth were on here, he would tell you.... As it was him who came over and sorted it for us. Sadly...... He is NOT on here and to make it worse..... Supports...... EVERTON !!.

The hob lids in our MHs have never cut off the gas when closed so it must depend on which make/model you have.

As for the pull-out on the grill getting hot, it does, it's there to deflect the heat coming up from the grill to prevent the knobs getting hot so is doing what it is supposed to, if you use the grill at home you'll find that a fair bit of heat comes out of the front and the knobs can get hot but not usually as much as a MH one, probably due to the burner on a home cooker being further back than in a MH one.

Home cookers do get hot too but nowadays have double layer glass doors with an air gap between to lessen the amount of heat getting to the outer section, but it can still get quite hot so always treat a MH one just as you would the one at home and keep kids, and pets, away from it when it's in use or for a while afterwards.

Our Bessacar Moho hob wouldn't work full stop if the glass lid was not completely vertical.
It’s an option from most oven manufacturers and can be retro fitted.

Since reading about the exploding glass cover and the electric hob being accidentally turned on, I have disconnected the electric to mine. I rarely used it anyway as not often on EHU, and when we were, I just forgot it was available as so used to turning on the gas hobs.
ours is a gas grill over the oven and the floor of the grill gets hot like the pull-out plate. I have to remove everything from it when using the oven, even the silicone mats which are designed as baking sheets but I use as anti slip/rattle for the grill pan. The silicone mats get too hot to touch and smell a bit which is why I dont use them for baking.

We did the same thing. My wife was next to it when it exploded. £180 to repair.

I think I’ll pinch that idea of removing the knob if thats ok?

Just unplug or switch off the cooker 240v feed at the fuse board or under the cooker to prevent the damaged cooker look.
