After the terrible floods I wondered if anyone was travelling in Germany and can report on what the situation is particularly the South West along Mosel and Rhine down to Lake Constance or along the Alpenstrasse?
many thanks

There almost seemed to be a news blackout on those floods after the first 48 hours

possibly due to the huge numbers unaccounted for 🙁

Oddly didn’t hear the Mosel mentioned much , possibly the towns are above the flood levels

all very sad

Not at all. If you go into Bernkastel there are markings on the walls of the flood levels going back centuries. There was a really good Moho site there that closed due to flood risk.

I don’t have any knowledge about the Mosel although I’d wager #Snowbird might as he has contacts in Reil.
However my brother overnighted in Dinant Belgium last night and it looks pretty grim there.

We are in Dinkelsbuhl currently and no sign of floods on the way down from Poland. The Germans are obviously staying "local" as restplatzes have been busy. We are on our way to Spain the long way round and taking in the views.

We are undecided its a toss up between Spain in September or visit the Mosel again and possibly do the Romantic road .
I'm leaning towards Germany
We did the Mosel south then north up the Romantic road last Sept and October it was a great trip

We did the Mosel for the first time last September and really enjoyed the 3 weeks we had there .
Only problem was most of the Stelplatzs were very busy and at times it was a struggle to get a pitch

My DW News App has recent [6th Aug] articles about the ongoing effects of the floods.
Think the worst devastation is in the Eifel region and the Ahr valley.
Went on a walking holiday there back in 2012, beautiful place.
As you said, so sad.
