My daughter wants to replace her iPhone with a newer model, she has asked me for help in deciding which one to get. There are so many iPhone models out there now how do you decide which one to get. She would like a good large screen with a decent battery for general phone and internet use. Any help appreciated......I offered her and my old Samsung S8plus but she gave me that funny look.....Thanks. (y)

Lorraine changed to the XR this year and loves it, the screen is the full size of the phone with no borders round it.

I have the Xs, love it. John Lewis had price match so got the 512gb for price of 256gb. When reverting to hubby’s inherited 6 (my old one)I find that quite cumbersome now. Daft I know as only got the Xs at Easter. For me though it feels really solid. Can’t see in bending in anyone’s pocket.

Thanks Jim, I looked at the XR recently in the Three shop, they have a 6 months half price offer on at the moment. Katie's positive review is worth giving it another look Thanks.

Thanks Caggsie I can see this is going to be more difficult than I first thought. :)

My daughter was addicted to iphones for years and laughed at android. when hers broke yet again, she tried my phone, a samsung and was hooked. much better phones and cheaper, what's not to love?

New iphones normally released in September. Might be worth waiting to see if the new stuff is worth the money and if not the outgoing models will drop in price

If the IPhone doesn’t come with a free motorhome, I wouldn’t buy one. ?.

Androids are so much more flexible too, imho. Rather than just believing me or anyone else here with different views, why not Google some of the better phone technical websites and forums too, where they specialise in these things and you’ll probably find more well-informed opinions and answers. Right, off to the woods to duck the backlash! Ha! ??

You are preaching to the converted Big 1, I have a Note 9 which is a fantastic all around bit of kit but she is not interested.....:giggle:

I have always had iPhones, and I really get along with them, I do like the X, but I find the face recognition a faff. It only recognises me with my specs on, and if I'm looking directly at it. Not super helpful, really. Especially in the car or using Apple Pay. its quite a minor niggle though.

Both my girls have got an X something or other. and seem to like them.

I prefer my 6 plus or whatever it is called because it has a bigger screen, but it doesn't neatly fit in my pocket. In fact it looks like I have got a laptop stuck in there.

I had an XR years ago.............so there! :moon2:

Mine was an XR3i but was made by Ford not Apple. :D2:D2:D2

Richard
Bet you wish you still had it, be worth a bit now

Too much information Chris X something or other, 6 plus or whatever, laptop that doesn't fit in your pocket information overload.... :giggle:;)

I too have the 6 Plus or, as it is more commonly known, "The iPad Micro".

Hi,

The iPhone XR has had good reviews:

iPhone XR review: Apple's cheaper battery king

Do consider getting a refurbished phone, which will save you money, however if money is not an issue then you can buy direct from Apple.

Do your research, and good luck!

Hmm! I’ve heard some people think Microsoft Windows is good too........?

I have an iPhone 7. If you don’t need all the bells whistles and latest social media cr&p, its probably a best buy.

Looking at getting a new vodafone contract with more data as ours is ending this month. (currently 16GB for £30PCM)
Looking on Mobiles.co.uk at the moment, great Sim only deals available with Vodafone (100GB for £25 PCM then cashback taking it down further) (y)
Looking at the popular upgrades like The I Phone XR the upfront cost is staggering at £245 (many much more)up front on a two year contract at £41PCM with 50GB data.
Will keep looking as I am a tight bugger, and was looking to pay around £30 PCM with a new phone and not much if any upfront.
Wish me luck.
Les

don't get the samsung s9 then its face recognition is near on useless, i have one for work and an iPhone xs max for personal phone . i hate android find it frustrating.

I have one (s9) and agree face recognition not really effective. Fingerprint seems spot on though.
I have had iPhones and would never have another one.

I'm on an XR too, absolutely love it buttons

The camera quality is stunning.

Wellington I trained my facial recognition with my glasses on and off, just in case!

Tanya has recently changed to the XR and I have changed to the smaller XS

Both seem to be great phones and with no complaints from T I’d recommend mate

Facial recognition has been flawless on mine
In light dark with beard no beard glasses no glasses hat no hat sober or pissed
It does learn as it goes

Since my last post I have had a deal offering with Vodafone which beat Mobiles.co.uk offering by miles for a new (not refurbed) I Phone XR 128GB with £49 upfront, and a 30GB data, unlimited texts.calls, £199 quids worth of warranty thrown in, oh and free delivery, for £49 quid a month. " As I am such a loyal customer" "no one else has been offered this deal yet"...yea right!
I am not a phone or techno geek by any means, dont care about logo's etc, but what do you guys think, was it a good deal or have I been suckered?
I will have 14 days cooling off when it arrives.
PS: I am not an Apple enthusiast either, I would have been OK with an Android phone, but its for her indoors, the part time navigator:swear: I am hoping the nav instructions will improve going forwards, not backwards for a change?
