I am moving house soon and I am thinking of ditching BT completely and going internet everything. Has anybody on here done this already? If so, is there a modem (if that's the right word) that you could use for your home TV, AND take away in the van with you without paying anymore than the monthly contract fee. I know you can currently get around 100Gb per month for about £20, which I believe approximates to almost 4 hrs TV per day. This is less than half the price of BT right now - with the possibility of better deals later.

Any constructive advice would be welcome.

P.S. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to I.T. So please keep your advice as simple as possible.

Thanks

I pay £28 a month everything unlimited. At home and where we get a signal in the van, Netflix and iplayer mostly. All from 3. We use the router at home (because they gave me one) and the phone as a hotspot when away.

This is also something we are looking at, EE are offering a 4GEE HOME ROUTER and vodafone. Like you I am also wondering if we ever really need a landline phone no? you can get virtual landlines, but then you are paying out a monthly fee again. Interested to hear about anyones experiences.

All copper fed ‘landlines’ will be obsolete after 2025……BT are removing the copper-based kit from all their exchanges, so all home phones will be ‘mobiles’ of some sort…..

Unfortunately in our area our house is in a bit of a black spot and we have absolutely rubbish signal for mobile so have to stick with land line based broadband😕

This is where I get confused. I thought all internet required a phone number. If you have a router at home - it surely must have a phone number different from your mobile no. and therefore on a separate account. Is it possible to have just one phone no. for home and away internet TV?

You don't need a landline/fibre etc anymore unless you really want to have extremely high speed connections or intend to have a lot of users on at the same time using a lot of data.

We have been using mobile data and/or mobile phones only for a long time (except when 3 crapped up big style and we had no choice but to go back to a landline for internet ... never again!).

We now have 2 mobile phones with 100gb contracts for £8 a month (via reseller so cashback paid to us to get cost down from £20 pcm), we just use our phones and tether to them (ie turn on the hotspot mode so we can connect our laptop & computer) and off we go. No need for anything else. The only time you would need another way to connect was if you wanted to have internet connection at home when you are away in your MH with your phone.

I'm sorry I can't explain why it works, I only went into the 3 shop, in Oxford, because my wife was in Next. They offered me an upgrade on the same contract but for £2 more I could have the router as well. I wanted to keep my old sim for the number, this old sim didn't work in the router. Now it's too complicated, but the end result is a nice phone and a router both with unlimited everything. Visit the 3 shop and ask.

I have the same problem. Only around 5mb on a good day.
I'm hoping 5G will improve it. I hate paying BT / Openreach line rental every month
