Is 2MBPS enough speed from internet to stream tv etc when abroad in Europe,,Thanks ,,BUSBY.
 
i believe 2mbps is the minimum but it would have to be a very stable 2mbps me thinks
 
Might struggle but depending on what you watch then download to BBC iplayer and watch later should be no problem.
 
A good broadband speed for streaming is at least 1.5 megabits per second for TV services such as BBC iPlayer for standard streaming or 2.8Mbps for HD quality.

For Netflix, the minimum speed required is about 3Mbps for standard streaming and 5Mbps for HD

Vodaphone are offering unlimited data. calls and messaging for 23 pound a month and according to operator I chatted to at Car Phone Warehouse no restrictions using it in EU..2mpbs max though..Don't know if to risk it for watching
tv abroad. BUSBY.

but you will probably be subject to a "fair use policy". So not quite as unlimited as they make out..
That being said, they are not going to throttle or cut your services for watching a bit of TV.
 
nearly always cheaper to buy a PAYG Sim when you have already GONE.
 
Tested our broadband speed with the Google tool. It's 2.4mbs which it says is very slow. I thought broadband was fast ? contract ends in May so I'll look at the fibre deals then, probably won't be any dearer.

Fibre won't be much faster at such a low speed for normal copper wire.
Ours is around 4meg at best and the last time the engineer called I asked about fibre.... He said we are a long way from the nearest junction box and the underground line to our house is so old it was installed by Alexander Bell himself so we might get 5 or 6meg on fibre.
The fibre connection only goes from exchange to nearest junction box, not to your house.

We used to have 3mb on normal broadband and streaming was a pain in the arse realistically for reliable streaming you need at a minimum of 5mb preferably 10mb.
Don't have any problems now we have 55mb.

This was the pathetic speeds I had to put up with from BT due to being out in the sticks and basically one of the last houses on that exchange.
Sacked BT off completely and their useless copper wire.
Dug up my garden and fitted fibre all the way to my router in the attic.
Now have 900Mb up and down ?❤️?
Had to by a VoIP phone package though As I no longer had a phone line.
Vonage voip phone deal £13 inc all calls
Fibre at that speed is expensive though (I could have got a cheaper / slower tarriff but I'm greedy so it's £60 odd a month for that. ?
 
An added bonus is my mobile rings when the house phone rings so I can answer the house phone wherever I am in the world (well, as long as I have mobile reception that is)

It would be more than a trench in the garden for us.... We're at least ¾ mile from the nearest junction box.

I get good speed from vodafone everywhere I've been with it in uk and stream with no problems, however I think to watch bbc and itv in europe, you'll probably need a vpn; which reduces your speed a little. Probably better to get a local payg sim.

All Vodafone 'Unlimited' plans are limited to 25GB in Europe. You're better off with a Mobile Broadband plan, 50GB with no EU limit.

No VPN required for using a Vodaphone SIM in Europe - a UK IP means iPlayer etc works the same in Europe as in the UK.

A local PAYG SIM would need a VPN and would probably work out more expensive everywhere but Portugal.
