20 years on and off
just had my renewal quote and low and behold it is £8 cheaper than last year.I phoned up to confirm and was offered a three year fixed price of £386 including breakdown which I accepted thinking it is a good price plus no having to get a load of quotes in the future. So a price sorted for 2021, 2022.
The informed me they were doing fixed 3 years prices across all their insurance products so they might be worth checking out. At present the breakdown covers a motorhome length of 7 metres but it might be worth asking them if can cover longer. the breakdown is with the RAC.

hi
whose your insurers and what vehicle have you thanks

If you dont take there three year fixed price they will give you a £30 discount !
thats what they offered me anyway.

Seen this on the TV...
My worry is that you may be tied in to them at an un competetive deal if something chances.
It already states in the TV small print about that.

What if you chance vehicle ? they could be way over on price.
Accident, your fault or not, are you locked in to revised higher premiums that you cant get out of..

As they say nowt for free, i prefer to spend a day and shop around once a year. (y)

Read a bit more and seems you have the option to leave at the end of every 12 month period.

as long as nothing changes, you'll pay the same price next year and the next.

Why might your price change?

  • You make a claim
  • You get a driving conviction
  • Insurance Premium Tax increases
  • You make any other changes to your insurance, such as changing your car."

Hi all. It is with Saga insurance. Obviously accidents, driving offences will effect the premium. As for locking in I pay by quarterly payments which I can of course stop anytime and there is no charge to pay by installments. Prices might drop but I think I will grow hair before it becomes widespread. But either way I am a winner!!!

Ref saga ours is a 2006 swift suntor 590RL 2.3.
Mind you they only insure 17 years old or less.
It included breakdown uk and eu and I mentioned I was 70 this year.
On the age subject, what's the earliest you can submit to renew your license before your 70 birthday. Anyone know.

You can apply to renew 3 months before you are 70, and your renewed licence covers you till 3 years after the renewal date, at least mine did ie 3years and a month. If you don't need C1 and already have a picture licence and passport it can all be done online.

It’s something like 90 days, you will get the forms in the post automatically but will have to obtain the D4 yourself if retaining the C1

Depends whether you need all the benefits of the "premium" policy that the fixed price applies to. The essentials policy is cheaper and covers everything I need, and by swapping between Saga and John Lewis Insurance every year at renewal I haven't seen any price rises either, as they both seem very happy to give me a discount for my custom (fictitious or otherwise, but certainly substantially less than the price hike they like to impose if you renew).

I must add that Saga said the reduction was due to legal being halved and Breakdown cover is lower.
You pays your money and take your choice.

Where did you get that they won't insure 17 year old or less vehicles?

Thanks

They're probably working on their actuarial data showing that many don't last another 3 years.

Where did you get that they won't insure 17 year old plus vehicles?

Thanks
it was on the policy in small print at the bottom but of course they have full details so they will tell you. Of course things always change and a phone call helps sometimes. With leaving Europe and whatever complications that brings I prefer to know what I will be paying for the next 3 years. Probably cheaper around but this saves having to hunt round every year. I have the same with our power fixed three years just incase.
My mistake I should have put will insure vehicles older than 17 years.

I pay quarterly no extra charge and quite happy to stop payments if required.

With Saga be very careful when the renewal comes up. They are only a broker and regularly change underwriters and when they do so does your policy and you may not have the same level of cover you thought you had.
We had this problem with the house insurance, a load of things we thought we were covered for had been dropped off at renewal.
I would be careful insuring a Motorhome with them.

At present the breakdown covers a motorhome length of 7 metres but it might be worth asking them if can cover longer. the breakdown is with the RAC.

I was a bit alarmed by this as my Motorhome is 7.5m and 4.6t so I spoke to Saga and said that the 7m limit was for their car/van breakdown policy and that Motorhome were separate and had no limits.

Me too, had a bad experience with Saga valuation after a non fault write off. Sadly the premium is not the important bit, it's the claim that really matters when things go awry.

I am with Saga for both cars ( £135/£120 ) but think the MH quote of OP is a bit pricey ?

I just had a quote and be aware that the compulsory excess may be higher than you expected.ie £400 + voluntary excess £100 minimum
