When I first bought my Autosleepers Duetto, I had a Ford Escort as well that I was teaching my wife to drive in.On the insurance forms it asked if I had another vehicle and I answered yes, of course.
When it came time for renewal, I had sold the car as 'er indoors had bought her own one after passing her test.
I got to the same question on the renewal form and told them I no longer had a second vehicle and that my camper was now my main vehicle.
I got a callback quite quickly telling me that campervan insurance with the company I had insured with was based on owners having a car as well and using the 'van as a secondary vehicle. The broker spent the best part of an afternoon trying different companies before he could find one to take me on their books.
As campervans are so suited to everyday use, why the hassle in insuring them for this? The original company were quite happy to quote me an inflated policy for extra annual mileage at 10000 miles a year but how they thought I would do this while driving a car as well escapes me.
I am now with a company that gives me the insurance I want without massive loading and includes breakdown recovery insurance for UK and Europe for £85 extra per year.
On another note, we now have a motorhome as well as the camper. Does anybody know of a MH version of multicar insurance?
