quick question

I am selling my exiting motorhome and purchasing a newer one . I want to transfer the no claims from the existing one to the newer one as I have 9 yrs protected no claims.

However I still want insurance for the existing motorhome until I sell it although it would only be driven by anybody coming to view it.

I will have to go to a new insurance company as the present one provided a quote which was too expensive to stay with them for the newer van.

Can I just cancel my existing insurance, setup new insurance for the newer van and carry across the no claims and then look for new insurance to cover the existing van until its sold. Both vans will residue at my address

Thanks

You don't say who your existing insurer is. Why not talk to a couple of the more specialist brokers who get quoted on here? We use Comfort who have always been very good and willing to try to work round a problem. Have also spoken to AIB who gave us some helpful advice, even if they didn't get our business. I'm sure there'll be more experiences along shortly.

Try looking in the Insurance threads, most subjects have been covered before.

I have been quoted some ridiculously high quotes for the newer VAN i.e £1000 up wards, Comfort for example were £1,200 the most expensive was £1,400 from C&CC who are my exiting insurers and they wanted even more money to assist with keeping the present van and transferring the exiting NO claims to the newer van, which I wasn't going to pay. It seems they were just looking to make money

Your van must be made of Gold? Especially with over 9 yrs no claims perhaps they just don't want your buisness.

We're insured with NFU Mutual

They don't use NCB on Motorhomes, so when we had two vans insured at the same time, they simply added the 'new' vehicle to my existing MH policy. Then when I'd sold the original van, they removed it from the policy and refunded accordingly.

I think we pay about £500 for the Carthago, including unlimited windscreen cover, plus they replace the vehicle if it's written off within the first two years.

The original van was a cheaper Swift Bessie and that was about £400

May be a postcode lottery avita says Sidcup London Postcode?
For us Comfort was £354 with breakdown cover for our Exsis for the Dynamic Line it's £381 without breakdown cover, both included extra for audio equipment up to 2k.

Robert when i approached the C&CC about doing the same, the increase in the insurance was ridiculous again the London post code may have some thing to do with it

Yes it's almost certainly the postcode, also probably where you intend to keep it when not in use. I would think cars are looked at differently. It might well be worth exploring dedicated storage places, e.g. CASSOA, which could make a dramatic difference to the insurance quote. We had a similar problem when we changed storage, but after a "discussion" including pointing out we were moving onto a CASSOA Gold site we got it sorted.

£1200 is a lot of money!

Unfortunately as the van is used as a base for sailing and the boats are kept on the drive as well its not possible to put it on a storage site as it would be too much hassle when going away which is most weekends

People considering policies where NCD is not taken into account should be aware that it is sometimes difficult to get previously attained NCD back when you change insurers.

It happened to us with one of the insurers, I cant 100% remember which one but it wasnt NFU, not sure how they treat it.

Not long enough!
I've met folk paying £3000 to £3500 as an annual premium.
As more modern vans cost more to mend someone has to foot the bill. :-(
