MarionK’s post about fridges has got me thinking… 12v compressor fridges are approaching £1k (ouch!) so, if you can find one that fits, why not install a relatively inexpensive high efficiency domestic fridge (maybe a top mount that fits in the hole) and run it from an inverter with the ability to switch between mains (hookup) or inverter. If the inverter is driven by the existing 12v from the alternator it would be the same as running a 3 way without the gas option. Add another switch for leisure battery and all circumstances are covered.

A fridge compressor cuts in and out so the mean power consumption should be relatively low, the rule of thumb is a third of the fridge wattage.

Feasible?
Given the inefficiency of an inverter is enough power available from the alternator 12v circuit (Normally 15A = 180w)
Would there be too high a drain from a leisure battery for that option?
Anybody done this?
Am I chasing just another daft idea?

That’s very interesting, it can be done. Nice thinking to change the compressor, just 40w, but not sure I could do that! I guess your freezer always ran via an inverter as there is no mention of a switchable source so assume always from your substantial leisure battery? Did you consider a switchable source… 12v alternator, 12v leisure, 230v hookup?

It’s on an auto changeover . Inverter/EHU/generator

Now many MHs have quite a bit of solar, and bigger leisure batteries, it's becoming feasible.
