Getting there!
A year on and we still only use campsites and only go on prebooked/planned trips normally on sites with EHU and full facilities etc.

We have just been discussing that we should be a bit more adventurous so are considering pub stops or just cheap stopover sites with no EHU but haven’t got a clue where to start. Our only requirement will be a decent pub close by, preferably serving food. The location must be safe and wild camping or sleeping in a lay-by is not an option.

A couple of trial trips would ideally be within 30 miles of Peterborough to get us started.

Any help, suggestions or advice appreciated.

Why don't you try the camper fest meet at Chester this Easter. You can book on line. It will give you the opportunity to meet other funster and get some ideas of other meets or places to go to. It's for a weekend so you don't really need hook up and only a 15 min max walk to Chester centre where there are loads of pubs. Spend a couple of nights, in the funster marque with funsters. Usually something going on.

We are already booked up for Easter weekend in York, our second year and probably going to be a yearly thing forever!

Brit Stops? Join up, parking usually free, EHU often available. It's a question of you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours - eat or have a few drinks in the pub & the stop-over is free.

Have a look on the Campercontact.com website and choose the map option. Zoom in to Peterborough and you will see campsites (blue) and places to stop in black. Some of the latter are pubs with free parking. Example below. Best to ring them first of course and book a meal at the same time. :) In theory it isn't necessary to eat at the pub but that's why they offer parking! :)

Then, if you want to take this up, load the campercontact app on your tablet/phone and pay your £5.

Other apps are available. :)

Using the pub wouldn’t be an issue, in fact it’s normally where we end up anyway!

Hop across the channel and find out what real Motorhoming is all about. It's so much easier than the UK with Aires & Stellaplatz everywhere. You never need to book or plan a stop there is nearly always somewhere close by.
When we bought our 1 st motorhome we had a couple of days in the New Forest & then we were in France within a week.

Nothing wrong with that. EHU I can easily do without, cassette toilet is ok, but I hate showering in a confined space without enough hot water for a decent shower. Luckily there are plenty of pubs etc where you can get a different camping experience without giving up all the comforts. Sorry, don’t know your part of the world, but bound to be loads of options nearby. Booking & planning is down to personal preference, sometimes I do, sometimes not.

The UK is not the easiest place to wild / free camp, we have stopped at pubs but it's not a cheap option, we was members of the caravan and camping club and liked the temporary holiday sites because you never had to book, also the small sites CS and caravan club CL sites. ?
From where you are try a few days at Lynton Top we loved it up there. ?

You could try Jasmin camping a bit more than 30 miles but an easy run small site but secure and you could try ehu or not as a trail

Been, will go again but wanted to try some others too.

Maybe try a rally or a meet at one of the motorhome shows. That way you have the back up of others plus the chance to ask any questions.
Peterborough usually gets around 100 of us funster vans in our own area.

You could try here!
Motorhomes can stop in the carpark if you are using the pub!

I use campingpubs facebook group. You can search the site for locations, and have found some cracking pub stopovers. Unfortunately, I haven't used anything close to Peterborough, although i have found one or two in the Cotswolds?

Why not add a pub stopover to your existing trip, so that you can sample it, then move to a site with all the facilities afterwards. Bristops is also a good resource. If you know of any pubs with large level car parks locally, why not ring and ask if they will let you stay. Pubs are often happy to provide parking in exchangge for a meal, or a few drinks. Personally, i enjoy spending my money on that, rather than an expensive campsite, which is usually isolated, for short breaks.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

If you're a member of either of the 2 big clubs go on a rally or temporary holiday site and talk to others for advice.
