I’d love to camp out in the snow . You guys that regularly go to ski or to snowier regions . Do you take snow tyres with you , fit them before u leave the Uk ? . Do u need winter tyres and chains etc ?

Please advise

Tyres with the 3 peaks symbol (y)
Snow chains are mandatory in many French mountainous regions and the Pyreneese.
Signs tell you when they have to be fitted and no chains, no travel

I’m an avid fan of winter tyres having them on my cars during the winter season making a massive improvement.

I’ve used chains with normal tyres but no need (yet) for chains on top of winter tyres.

We have snow tyres on all year round. They’re extremely good in snow and in normal driving conditions. We’ve never had to fit chains, even in extreme snow conditions.

You certainly wouldn’t take them with you - their weight would be enormous!

we ski once or twice a year with the motorhome, not long back from one trip and off again in March.

Never used to use Snow tyres just kept chains. In 18 years I have had to put them on twice but so glad I have them.

Having ventured further afield in to Austria/ Italy/ Germany and Switzerland Snow tyres are the legal requirement. Snow tyres are amazing in the snow. When others are chaining up, its amazing how I have managed to keep going on a good set of snow tyres.

We have spare steel wheels which we keep fitted with snow tyres Front only and put them on come winter time trips.

It's not always a bed of roses in the motorhome in the snow.... But it's the only way when my kids were younger we could afford to go skiing and visit some amazing resorts.
