Nine years in theory, a newby in practice!!!
I wish Scotland would decide what they want. They created the 500 route now aren't happy with motorhome volumes. They want our money and our trade but not us. Surely someone in the tourist industry has enough of a brain to realise motorhome numbers are growing at a rapid rate so they must offer them facilities.
I just wish they would embrace the increase in tourism and shop moaning at every opportunity.

Have to agree . With the growth of motor-homing the UK should be doing what it can to encourage their use and bring business to all the corners of the nation . Decent aires , more relaxed out of season parking and waste disposal points . I cannot understand why the large lorry parks found on the motorways don’t have waste / water facilities even for a modest charge . An enterprising service could even have an Moho wash service for all of us lazy buggers on the way home from a holiday :-)

I agree with you , what do they actually want? The area being reported on in that newspaper article is part of the Heart 200 route now being advertised to quite a degree.

<Broken link removed>

The map of the route , https://www.heart200.scot/ ...... clearly shows Pitlochry as being part of the route, so can it be assumed that local enterprises , businesses etc, have had an opportunity to discuss the implications and opportunities for the area ? Given they must surely know the success of the NC 500 ...... Motorhomes are a given , in terms of visitors to such an advertised route ............... A couple of local councillors , yet again , in this newspaper article !!!

As already mentioned. The car park in Question is the one out of several that overnight HGVs are directed to and its payable at £4.40 so not free.

I have to add that there is only ONE house opposite this car park. What did the owner do....Come over and invite us all to have some water (ex motorhomer) (y) (y)

I can’t imagine anybody choosing to go to a motorway service area . Haha

I can tell you the pubs were charging £31.60 for a round of drinks for four, 2 wines and 2 pints so they alone made plenty of ££ from us during our stay, not to mention distillery tour, chinese takeaway, shopping etc etc.

Anyone interested in seeing our private weekend video then PM me and I will send you a link.

Have a watch of this from a guy (Cameron Mcneil) that has written many books on highland tours & history, you may well have enjoyed his many TV documentaries of "The Roads Less Travelled" recently on BBC Scotland, aired all over the UK. He certainly recognises the "NC 500 Problem" and totally rejects the highland councils proposals of putting in place "Camping Zones"for the future. Hopefully with his celeb status and influence, someone might listen to common sense "positive suggestions"for a change.

Regrettably Cameron Macneil, you are wasting your sweetness on the desert air. The people making the decisions are not MH owners or users and banning is so much easier than making things happen. Have I heard it all before?? What do you think?

i wonder why there wasnt a follow up after the motorhomes had left? i wonder if there was actually an issue with waste etc? i sometimes feel that 'campaigners' for an issue grasp at any straw they can to support their cause, perhaps this was one of those?

as i said initially, was there an issue AFTER they had left?

They should be thankful it wasnt another group of travelers , similar to about 20 who have taken over a big layby near Southam , it looks like a rubbish tip already , and thats before they leave . All on republic plates !

It is Cameron McNeish ;)
A super chap

What a nice chap with a clear message to the powers that be. Whilst none of us are perfect I believe the vast majority of MH and PVC owners are respectful of others space and facilities, however speaking from my own experience, on the odd occasion I have had the need to use a standalone (not on a site) waste/dump facilities its unbelievable that people believe its absolutely fine to leave the facilities in a state, they cant be arsed to take 1 minute to swill the area with a drop of water even if there is a hose pipe provided for such use. So you have to ask the question, would providing waste/dump facilities along the N500 be the answer.

It's really won't make any difference what facilities the council's provide. We will always get the freeloaders who don't give a damp about fellow motorhomers. They'll still dump waste anywhere and park everywhere to save a few pence. Look no further than here in Benidorm. Toilets emptied in the park and facilities used in campsites by freeloaders. Unfortunately it's the minority who are ruining it for all of us and they always will.
Motorhome parking and facilities will always be an issue for generations to come. It has been for the 31 years we have travelled.

It would be interesting to see how much cash these terrible intruding motorhome people spent in the town over the stay period bringing money into Pitlochry seems to be what the council don't want , stop moaning and get something done about it and welcome the motorhome folks ?

Then perhaps we should pen a rebuttal to the mighty Courier? We should ask these questions directly of the Editor, who after all, sanctioned the article. They in turn can ask the same questions of the councillor.

I tend to agree with our collective concerns and can attest to how much I and my Family spent in Stonehaven for the Hogmanay festival; it wasn't cheap that's for sure.

Oh I forgot to mention, he writes a monthly column in one of the scottish newspapers on touring/hiking in the Highlands. He is very well respected by the scottish touring media, hence his TV series on The BBC, so if he cant make an appeal or any headway in making sensible suggestions on behalf of all of us that tour the highlands in our vans,to the councils and powers that be, then I guess no one can.
I am sure we all wish him the best of luck, and thank him for his efforts.
