I'm a newbie
The 4 light cluster over the kitchen area has always been a bit temperamental but now its given up altogether. I've eased out the switch and it tested okay, so I guess the problem lies beyond the switch. Bad earth comes to mind but is there an earth connection somewhere outside the cluster. Don't fancy taking that lot down. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Probably the only way, you need to establish if 12v is getting to the unit. Do you have a multimeter ?
I do have a multi-meter so I'm thinking it must be possible to remove one of the bulb holders and test the back of that for a live supply. I'm no electrician so I could be talking rubbish

If you say It with confidence it sounds like you know what your doing

Good luck

Yes, test each in turn.
Depending on what you find will determine if you need to remove it (y)
