I don't like tunnels at the best of times, but...

This is one of the reasons we’ve not used the Euro tunnel. I tell myself I’m not claustrophobic and it is only mild but I start reading this and my heart is racing and my palms are sweating. Fears aren’t rational or logical, although I’ve always thought it would be a good terrorist target. I happily travel on the underground and did as a student during the IRA business. Makes no sense to me either and I’m a doctor.

The story does strike me as fuss about nothing - they had a problem, their procedures to keep passengers safe and well kicked in and worked fine, people were delayed and inconvenienced but were all perfectly safe at all times.

I fully understand that tunnels are not a good option for those with claustrophobia. Personally, in the event of an emergency, I'd much rather climb down from a train and walk into a service tunnel next to it - which is a safe, sealed area even if the train is on fire - than be on a ferry, have to evacuate into life rafts and then clamber onto another boat once it eventually arrives!

Doesn't stop me using ferries elsewhere mind.

Being on double crutches at the moment I did wonder how I would have managed seeing just how far the people appeared to have to walk.

They must have procedures & equipment in place for those with mobility problems.

not nice if you are already worried, but all turned out right in the end.

Ive often wondered which end would we float out of it it flooded

Time for a remake of the 1955 film with John Mills - 'Above us the Waves'

A story of a ten minute walk and carrying a dog, with selfie footage included, and worried passengers already contacting the 'We will get you compensation for every trifling little event' set of Lawyers.

I’m afraid you don’t understand the irrational nature of fears and phobias. I’m sure you mean well but mansplaining doesn’t help at all:giggle: If you’re female then ladysplaining doesn’t work either!

I am severely claustrophobic but manage the tunnel easily. Its massive your sat in your moho no problem. I cant get in a lift or the rear of a two door car. Its a weird phobia.

I was terrified when we were booked to go through the first time. Luckily we had a friend with us who had been through before and we were all ready with the sandwiches and flask and ice cream :) After that as long as we had food ready and go a lunch time or tea time train all was fine.

Food and feeding others is always my coping mechanism.

Looks like the usual sensationalist reporting.
I'm sure it wasn't fun and if you don't like the tunnel anyway, unpleasant.
But I ,wonder how many (if any) people that had to ask until they got the response they wanted for the news report.

The media whipping up scare stories. It's not the first time and even when they had four fires, two serious, in the tunnel, everyone was evacuated using the same method albeit some with minor injuries.

I suspect you would be statistically much more likely to be killed or injured driving from the tunnel to the M25.

Just blame the Amygdala, It’s trying to keep us safe but doesn’t always do a great job. (For those who haven’t read it Dr Steve Peters wrote the pop psychology book The Chimp paradox ) if you can calm the Chimp then the irrational fear can also be helped to be less activated 😎👍

Have I just manspalined 🙄 apologies if I have

Absolute pantomime I can tell you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Darn, there always someone with better kit :)

Can I bring the popcorn, Beer and a beach chair whilst I watch you getting the kit on to the Dog, it may be easier to get one of these to go diving with the Dog in a bit of comfort

It was the first time and I made a fundamental error
Placed it UNDER his chest instead of on his back
Silly sod felt something was under him and spent the entire time trying to jump over it !!!
