Recently checked our 2013 Fiat-based Hymer A class to see if it will start before today's snow arrived to cover the solar panel. Engine started, though the battery was only showing 12v before I started it. Wiper blades traversed through a 45 degree arc then stopped (not frozen to the windscreen!). When I can dig my car out I'll see if it is the fuse (F43?). Failing that I'm concerned about getting the wipers fixed/replaced before 3rd January when we are heading to Spain.

I googled Fiat/Hymer motor and this seems to be unit. £435! Does anyone know if this really is the required unit. I was going to buy a spare "just in case", but not at that price. There's another photo showing the 5 terminals in the plug. A previous post I saw indicated this was correct for a three-blader.

Unlikely to be a spline slipping if it's on all blades check the joints on the linkages in case one has failed.
Failing that it could be the motor or the Schaudt control box, the wiper motor on Hymers are often Volvo car wiper motors & they don't cost that much.

I would agree with Lenny HB. I had a similar issue a few weeks back. I just flipped off the caps that cover the nut then give it a tweak with a 10mm socket. Only needs a bit.

Our 2014 B544 had the wiper motor assembly replaced under warranty in 2016. I’d noticed the occasional hesitancy and stuttering but thought little of it. I read a post on here at the time, (can’t find it now) about Hymer fitting an upgraded unit because of failures.
I reportedly it and the new unit was much better. Unfortunately the warranty paperwork just says uprated motor and wiring loom, though I think the replacement was a Valeo.
I’d have to look, in storage, to be sure of make and part numbers.
It looks like Hymer originally fitted a unit not up to the job of those three big wipers.

It is probably the Schaudt box attached to the underside of the dashboard in the engine bay. Try checking the security of the wire connectors going into it.

I have suffered this intermittent problem twice. The first time the dealer changed the Schaudt unit under warranty. The second time was in France this spring. The Hymer agent in Bordeaux couldn't get another unit for weeks, so I solved it by disconnecting and reconnecting the wiring. I now carry a spare Schaudt box. Brownhills were selling them at a good price on Ebay.

Thanks, guys. What is this "Schaudt Box", obviously not the electroblok in that location. Is it specific to the wipers?

Yes just for the wipers small black box under the bonnet, same size as the one that operates the step.

Thanks, Lenny. Wiper relay! Didn't know about the step one either. Never too late to learn...

AFAIK it boosts the power Fiat sends to the Hymer specific wiper motor in order to cope with higher drag of three blades that are longer than the 2 used on the standard C class windscreen.

Both our A Class Hymers with only 2 blades had the box, our Tramp with std cab didn't.

It is only a relay box so they can feed a higher current to a higher power wiper motor so as not to burn out the Fiat wiring.

After all that, the wipers were working today. Gremlins! Thanks for the info, which I'll salt away for the day the gremlins come back.

Hopefully you’ve had no further issues but as mentioned in post #4 we had a supposedly upgraded version fitted under warranty back in 2016. It did cure the hesitation a stuttering and just felt stronger in operation.
Could just be a new standard one for all I know but here’s a photo with the part numbers if it helps.

Now, it seems the wiper motor is faulty. Valeo 403868. A few knocking about for £400++, no luck with breakers (tractor and motorhome), John Deere or Volvo part numbers. Any suggestions for solutions please? (Other than paying hundreds of quid if it can be avoided)

Thank you for thinking if some suggestions, unfortunately last two out of stock and first one is a 404, looks like it is closed down now. The hunt goes on ...
Have you considered a company like this, there maybe others.
